don't know why patrick was gushing about the plot

When the overwhelming response is "this game reminds me of Deviantart furry porn" (which it FUCKING DOES), you obviously have to gush about it lest you be associated with "these people".

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm preeetty sure there is no actual porn in the game. So how it looks like furry porn is beyond me. Furry fanart, sure, but saying it looks like furry porn? Come on now, let's not sensationalize things and sound exactly like the kind of retard that Patrick was saying would immediately dismiss the game without a thought.

But if you don't play Persona 3 then how can you participate in the very important argument over which is the better game, persona 3 or persona 4?!

Pfft, what argument? Everyone knows that P3 is the superior game. ;D

@Turambar said:

The game references some things from Persona 3 for comedy sake, that's about it. No plot continuity outside of existing in the same world.

If P4A's ending is an indication of the series heading to where I think (and hope) it's heading, we may end up seeing a broader continuity between the Personas than we previously were led to believe. Hint: The recurring butterfly throughout the games and who it originally represented.

Anywho, good luck getting into the series, OP. Lots of good tips and recommendations in here. Personally, I think you're fine jumping into 4 first and if you really like the mythos and all that, you can always go back to older games (if you're willing to forgive them some clunkiness). And hell, you could always branch out to other SMT games like Devil Survivor, Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga, or Devil Summoner if you really find the whole concept of personas and such up your alley.

Wow. First post and I'm already being flamed. I can tell this is a great community already.

I can tell from your first post and your inability to take criticism without a healthy dose of passive aggressiveness that you'll contribute a lot of great things to the community! So cheers and welcome!

Man, Giantbomb really has devolved into a bunch of fucking dicks.

And posts like this really help.

The great thing is Bucketdeth was involved in some fairly epic spats back in the day; particularly ones revolving around music (Metal specifically, if I recall correctly). Nothing's changed. There have always been dicks and there always will be dicks. There have and always will be great people, too. Like that guy. I mean as an example of the former. Certainly not the latter, haha no. That'd be crazy!

Probably true, but there are very few times I have been a dick just to be a dick, but I do admit that I have been pretty silly in the past over such things as a music genre. ***I would like to add though, that I am very passionate about most of the music I choose to listen to, only because it has helped through some tough shit as a kid.

That said, I'm not really sure how you remember some little rant I had years back, did I say something to upset you back then? I can picture you in fetal position, rocking back and forth while chanting "BUCKETDETH MUST DIE".

Haha no, I wasn't calling you out for being a dick. In fact, I generally sided with you in those little spats (hell, I remember a couple of them started in the comment sections of my own blog posts on my old Symphony account). My point was more that jerks and trolls and flaming and name calling and all that stuff existed back in the 'good 'ol days' and that the community hasn't devolved as badly as people like to think (if it's even devolved, at all. Though for sure we've lost plenty of good contributing members, but at the same time, we've gained others).

Edit: Really, think about it for a moment. Remember the whole "Nintendo Defense Force" drama? Remember Disgaeamad and all that weird stuff? Or even Linkyshinks? All that mod drama? There was a lot of craziness throughout the years and it really hasn't changed all that much from my perspective. I think it's more a matter of "If you are actively looking for something, you're bound to find it more often".. what's the fancy term for that, again? Ahh right -- the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon. *pushes up her nerd glasses*

Lesse, off the top of my head....

Tales of Xillia (and Xillia 2 if we ever see that)

Atelier Ayesha

Bayonetta 2

Ni no Kuni

Disgaea Dimension 2

Virtue's Last Reward

Persona 5 (whenever that gets made)

SMT IV

Sol Trigger

Trails in the Sky (if they ever localize more of that franchise)

Etrian Odyssey IV

I'm sure there's more, but that's what I can think of atm.

Edit: whoops, said Vesperia when I meant Xillia

Hmm... come to think of it, I haven't really played any terrible games this year. I've played some disappointing ones, for sure, like FFXIII-2, but I wouldn't call that game bad. Just a big let down thanks to a final act twist and cliff hanger that made absolutely no sense. Maybe Agarest War 2... that game was pretty bad -and- disappointing since Agarest War Zero was a pleasant surprise and it would have been nice if that trend had continued.

As for GB's, yeah I'll put my money in the Steel Battalion pool with a side bet on maybe a Resident Evil game edging out ahead.
