@Sjupp: From the little I have gathered through obscure forum investigation so far, it seems like an ISP issue. Xbox Live (and microsoft.com) is down for me and others with steam problems as well.. I'm in the country next to yours, so perhaps that's why we're both affected. I'm really not sure, though. What a terrible day to plan on gaming :P
" Hooray, just got home and rebooted the computer, which had been on while downloading a ton of games I bought last night. Now I can't connect to steam, as it is down (nor steampowered.com), and can't play any of them! Awesome! This is just as much fun as paying for an ubisoft game! "
Try taking a look at your download region in Settings > Downloads tab > Download Region I had the same problem, dno how they are related but it just worked. Or perhaps it was just some kind of ridiculous coincidence. "
Thanks for the tip - I've tried a few random things I came across on various forums as well, such as deleting the clientregistry.blob file, but nothing helps.
Your tip sounds like it could work, as steam is clearly working for other people in different regions. But I can't change it, as I'm not even let into the steam client (just formatted and did a clean install of win7, so no offline profile or whatever it's called stored). If anyone knows how to switch regions in any configuration files or something, hook me up!

This is perfect as I just upgraded my computer! ...Which makes it pretty ironic that of all the games I bought, I want to play Titan Quest the most right now.
Got King's Bounty Gold Edition, Introversion pack, THQ pack and The Witcher so far. Thinking about the Telltale pack and, for some reason, the 2K pack (no, I mustn't).
My new goal in life is to finish all these games before I hit 50, at which point it'll probably be about time to ditch the computer and get on with this holo-gaming all the kids will be raving on about. I probably won't understand any of it and feel old, though :(
