Top 6 games of 2010

  • Recently i have felt that most shooters seems so uneven in quality, they either boast a solid campaign but underwhelming multiplayer (Medal of Honor) or the other way around (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2). Halo: Reach however has quality in everything no matter how you look at it. The Campaign was one of the most explosive, thrilling and satisfying i have experienced in a long time and between the its four player co-op mode and vastly improved Firefight, it really offered a lot for co-op junkies, and the multiplayer sweet is about as enourmous and varied as shooters come and go. Add an improved forge mode, theater and customisation options within every mode, Halo: Reach offered more bang for your buck than any game of 2010.

  • Bioware certaintly knows how to craft good sequels, since among them are Baldurs Gate II, Neverwinter Nights 2 and now Mass Effect 2 and Bioware sure delivered. In a way, Mass Effect 2 is the ´Empire strikes back´ equivalent of sci-fi video games. All of the uneccesarry character progression, awful vehicle sections and inconsistent framerate is nowhere to be found and Mass Effect 2 instead pours all of its magic into making a superb cast of memorable characters and improve the shooting mechanics in every way, delivering a thrilling sci-fi epic and an experience that you´ll remember for years from now on.

  • It seems like Ubisoft has a fetish for making sequels that bests their respective predecessor and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood continues this trend mostly in spades. Sure, Brotherhood arrives meerly a year following the release of the outstanding Assassin's Creed II and even though Brotherhood isnt quite the same breath of fresh air, it certaintly evolves the series in many, staggering ways. New gameplay mechanics, fun additions, improved combat and a well made multiplayer mode are just some of the things that make this another terrific entry in a very promising series.

  • The Splinter Cell series has never interested me, one bit. Conviction however caught me completetly off guard, delivering tense stealth/action gameplay and an excellent story that was told using some very interesting and clever touches. However, the nail that sealed the coffin for me was the absolutetly outstading co-op modes that brought forth an unforgettable co-op campaign and other addictive modes to keep me hooked.

  • When it comes to chaotic and electrifying multiplayer warfare, no one does it better than Digital illusions. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is a run-of-the-mill shooter that delivers an intense campaign and awesome multiplayer battles, all wrapped in beautiful destructibility and stunning environments.

  • Yes, Call of Duty has started to lose some of its moxie over the years but Black Ops did a fine job of delivering what makes the series great. Its both the embodiment and evolution of Modern Warfare 2´s multiplayer, that Treyarch did a great job of rebalancing and improving. A solid campaign and glorious zombie madness is all well and good too.
