Dan what is your opinion on the Power Up system itself? I think the floating icons are not only a terrible system but really stand out and look ridiculous next to a photo realistic Star Wars game.
That's the exact same thing that stuck with me after playing the beta. The use of semi-randomly spawning icons for vehicle use turns each round (if you like the vehicle stuff) into a bad version of where's Waldo.
On a side note, charging $50 bucks for the season pass is just insane. Between these two factors and the somewhat rudimentary and uninspired progression system, the game at $60 bucks is a hard sell. Think I'll take a hard pass on this one.
Actually, I think the powerup system for vehicles is a bit of a genius move. It stops people from camping their spawns, and by extension spawning in empty in the middle of a battlefield. Now they are fielded as deployments almost like you are playing a tabletop game. I know its different, and change scares people, but I was pleasantly delighted by the new system.
Funny, I wasnt planning on buying this till I tried it during the Alpha and Beta, and just loved the modified mechanics.
Solid review. I feel this game had a simple goal in mind: capture the feeling of the movies and keep it as simple as possible. The maps are super polished, the modes feel super polished, the gameplay and controls are excellent. The game just lacks depth. I am enjoying what I have played of it, and it certainly feels great, though I worry it will burn out quickly. Its a slick game, isnt the launch trainwreck the last few battlefields have been, and fills a niche little Star Wars fantasy till the movie comes out. I dont think anyone really expected it to be game of the year or anything. Its a big ask at $60, but Im certain I will get my money's worth and feel like a kid again doing it.
