psychonauts is one of those games that like 50 people like but they won't shut up about it so it seems like there's this huge demand for it.
psychonauts 2 would sell 50 copies and lose buttloads of money.
Pre-Brutal Legend I think Psychonauts 2 may have a had a pretty good chance. Unfortunately I think a lot curious fence-sitters and people wondering "So what's the big deal about these guys?" were turned off when they tried to answer this question with Brutal Legend and wouldn't bother taking a chance with Psychonauts now. Maybe some of this has been quashed by the quality of their downloadable releases but I'm not convinced it would do all that well either.
(To be clear, I really enjoyed Brutal Legend but I'll be the first to admit it's a tough game to try and defend)
I really liked his discussion with Jonathan Blow on the E3 podcast and felt he defended MS policy very well against someone who obviously wanted far less restrictions.
I liked it too. Unfortunately that discussion left me with substantially less respect for Blow himself.
You never know. Stress and the sense of stagnation are powerful forces. I'm sure more drastic decisions are made on a regular basis as a result of them.
I feel for the developers but I honestly feel this was and continues to be inevitable. There is just too much product being made. I bought Skyrim, Saints Row the Third and Assassin's Creed Revelations at Christmas. These games are going to take me well into spring and that's not even the tip of the iceberg that is my backlog.
I can't be the only one who regularly passes on games I would otherwise buy if I didn't already have three or four (more like 13 or 14) unplayed or barely played games on my shelf.
