put 30 more hours into the game on the way to finally finishing the main story arc, it's still a really great game.

also messed around with the home building dlc, which made me want a full on mash up of animal crossing and skyrim REAL BAD.

when it comes to fire emblem I am my own worst enemy. I want to see everything, level up every character, play every pointless randomly generated quest, save up all the cool weapons just in case I need them later (though I never do).

this particular fire emblem game let me do all that and was able to stay fun over the course of about 150 hours, and told a neat, if somewhat disjointed story full of fun characters. My biggest issue with this game is it started off perhaps a bit too hard in the early going and eventually became a bit too easy in the endgame.

for the most part this was a very lean, mean old school jrpg. While it seems like a lot of rpgs go the other way and bloat themselves to the point of bursting, this was a real showcase in restraint in rpg design. The combat system was pretty cool and rather unique in my experience, the bosses were tough, and the story is still pretty impressive for all its time traveling shenanigans.

found myself randomly playing some Mario Golf after Drew mentioned it on a bombcast or something, I think. When I was a kid I didn't really get into it much but this time I got rather addicted. the computer opponents could perhaps a bit too frustratingly perfect most of the time, but in a way it made each shot very intense, which was kinda cool.

another n64 game I never played much as a kid and now playing as an adult I found frustrating as hell at times, but in a way I sorta appreciated. if they ever make a full on pokemon game that's as difficult as this can be I'd pick it up, but I did find myself screaming and cursing at the "dice rolls" and slamming my fist in anger on my thigh quite a lot trying to beat some of the cups.

after catchin some twitch plays pokemon i found my old blue catridge and my brother's old red one and decided to put them to use and inject myself with some hardcore nostalgia.

Sadly, seems I prefer just listening to the soundtrack to actually playing th game. The soundtrack's really good though.

just the most digestible Zelda game I've ever played. Flew through it in a few days, and loved every second.

After getting into Mario Golf earlier in the year I tracked down a copy of this and the gameplay had improved, but in a way which took most of the intensity out of each shot, which might actually have hurt it a little. Still fun, though.

I really liked the story, however I had some issues with the gameplay. For one thing I hated it whenever they forced you into action sequences. In part I guess because the enemy AI stuck out as being noticeably and easily manipulable, for both human and spore zombie enemies. For humans I adopted Hotline Miami tactics of backing into a corner with one viable entry point and causing a racket and then blasting away at enemies as they approached, and for the zombies I stuck to tossing a bomb into a crowd or at a big one then tossing a molotov or two to clean up any stragglers who came over to investigate the noise. Maybe playing on a higher difficulty than normal woulda helped, but maybe not.

they really nailed the adaptation. the game itself was okay. Might be partially my fault for sticking to a simple tactic that worked well but made playing through combat rather tedious. Seems I might have a tendency for doing that.

I want to love this game, but I don't love playing this game.

  • dddddddd

so I was enjoying this until I learned there's a part where how you play the game effects the story, and that part's never actually explained as you play. that kinda killed the momentum I'd built up with the game.

a puzzle game, but one that really didn't require much actual puzzling as "pull out all the blocks you can and keep heading in the general direction of the endpoint" generally was a tactic that worked for finishing each puzzle, so for a puzzle game it felt a bit mindless. Still liked it though.

    Ico

I loved Shadow of the Colossus back in 2005 and this hd upgrade was still great in 2014. When I first played Ico in 2006 I was a bit down on it, but years later after I've played games like Brothers, Braid, and other games of that ilk my appreciation for Ico actually grew quite a bit.

this game perhaps would have benefited from a Binary Domain style zanier story, and it reaaaaaaally needed to realize that it's a bad idea to make a puzzle game where you're asked to solve puzzles while also being chased around by enemies who are faster than you are and kill you in 1 or 2 hits. It's a shame because it had been pretty damn good up to the part where the enemies show up but after that I lost all desire to finish.

the gameplay was pretty good, but the cast of party characters were less interesting to me than they are in the bioware games that I love, and interacting with your party has been one of the main draws of those games for me, and the story also wasn't amazing, I think most of the problem was delivered in a somewhat haphazard fashion, plus the dwarf section just flat out sucked and is the main reason I would strongly reconsider ever playing through the whole game again.

as someone who primarily loves the 3d mario games but has also in the past been very much disinterested in the 2d mario games at first I didn't love this game, as it's essentially a 3d mario game's feel and aesthetics but is designed and played in the fashion of the 2d games, but it really did win me over after a while. The fact that it was on a handheld that I could easily carry around and pop open whenever the urge struck me was a real benefit.

  • the characters and story seemed a bit more compelling than the game proper out of the gate, but I'd had enough Dragon Age by this point that I didn't end up seeing it through to the end. Some day I should pick this back up.

a very, very good puzzle game with a really sleek art style.

My love of turn based tactics games made me curious to check this out. The boring story was a bummer, but the limited, repetitive mission design was what ended up making me drop this one. Though that's perhaps being a bit overly harsh, as the game certainly gave me a dozenish hours of entertainment before I reached the point of quitting. That's not bad.

this is me giving another shot to classic style adventure games, and the idea of playing them still more appealing to me than actually playing them. This one was alright. Sadly it did not inspire me to play more adventure games.

Ghost Trick was pretty good, though perhaps I want to like it more than I actually do.

My takeaway from this game is I feel like if someone would mash this game's gameplay and binary domain's insane story and character stuff together they'd have made one hell of a good game.

i just had a lot of fun with this one. Guess I'm a sucker for that Uncharted style game.

I love the n64 aki wrestling games, and I love rap music, yet somehow I didn't get my hands on this game until 2014. It is quite bare bones compared to the last couple n64 aki games, lacking most of the match types and far more limited in number of characters, and the single player story mode is fairly short and sometimes cheap and definitely lacking in variety, but the underlying gameplay is still something I really enjoy.
