Most Divisive Games

by radleyduder

Created by this thread! This is where I'm going to keep a list of divisive games, and give a little review of each when I've finished them! Some of them qualify for the kind of divisiveness that I was looking for in a forum thread I started to pool together some divisive games, and some do not, but I added them all due to general curiosity. My personal goal, as someone who has not played a lot of video games, is to jump into the various games whose very design has divided people's opinions drastically, and try to understand it and maybe take a side. Who knows really, I don't like to conform to plans, including my own. :P

So the plan is I'll have my brief impressions of the next three games on my list, and I'll have a blog post for each, which I'll link to their respective entry. I can't keep to a schedule with these games, due to my own work schedule and the various lengths and difficulties that come with each of these titles, but I'll get to them as soon as I can!

One last thing, if you want to submit a game for this list, please let me know! I'm always open to new entries, provided there's at least one great argument from both a positive and negative point of view. The one kind of game I'm really aiming for is one that divides people purely on its mechanics. NOT because it's shocking in its content, NOT because the dev said some stuff on Twitter, NOT because any of that. Those games, in my haste, may have been added to this list, and I'd love for someone to call those out for me if they feel it does not need to be on there, so I can assess it and take action.

(UPDATE 11/11/14: Added and refined my list a bit, but I'm not done organizing yet, so you'll see things in the "Iffy" category that aren't supposed to be there anymore, I just need to get around to it when I have more time. I will also be adding a "Recently Added" section for games that were...well, recently added, but I either haven't found the time to move them up on the list, or haven't gotten the best arguments. I'll be ordering them by personal preference, unless someone's looking to get my thoughts on a particular game.)

Thanks for reading, hope to hear from you! :D

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

1. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

NOT YET PLAYED. (Design Divisive) The game that inspired this list. While I looked for, and found, games that either inspire a "greatest of all time" or "worst of all time" response, this is the game I've found to be the most divisive. As someone who isn't necessarily a big Zelda fan, especially 3D Zeldas, I'm not exactly excited for this game in terms of enjoyment, but my curiosity far outweighs that.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

2. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

NOT YET PLAYED. (Design Divisive) If anyone was put off by my lack of enthusiasm for Zelda, you probably won't enjoy the fact that I've played very little of the first Super Mario Bros and World, and absolutely none of 2 and 3. This leaves me somewhat unprepared for NOT YET PLAYED. (DESIGN DIVISIVE) Yoshi's Island, but I like to think of it as an advantage in seeking a well-rounded, removed review of the game.

Minecraft

3. Minecraft

NOT YET FINISHED. (Design Divisive) This one really speaks for itself. Minecraft is absolutely huge, especially for a game that seems to be more about building than anything else. Honestly can't wait to dive into this one.
