Fedoras, Buicks and fancy suits...

You probably guessed it, its LA Noire and this is my quick review of what's probably my favorite game so far of 2011. So lets cut the crap and get straight to business!

From the opening scenes of Mr Phelps blight during the Second World War to the Homicide dicks brushing of a murder and pretty much getting you to clean up, its easy to see the craftsmanship that Bondi and Rockstar have put into the experience. The graphics are (in my opinion) mind blowing when it comes to facial animation and movement in general, to the cars and the city in the background. That being said, its easy to see where some good details meet some bad ones, ie. in some places the transport seems out of place as lovely and shiny compared to the dank background. However, it does nothing to derive from the player experience.

The soundtrack (as is now expected from Rockstar) is just brilliant...It matches the mood and captures the essence of the Post War 40's. From the investigative music to the smooth jazz while driving around to the Ink Spots with Ella Fitzgerald, the music moves smoothly from one track to the next without immediate notice but enough to let you know, you're finished here...Go gather clues elsewhere, or that something brilliant is going to happen soon.

Onto the most important aspect...Gameplay. Very good in places...very silly in others. Most of the game play is very very enjoyable...However, interrogations and interviews are one of the most tedious things I've had to experience for a while within a game. Especially when somebody is lying and they're scratching themselves, avoiding eye contact and blinking lots while somebody telling the truth stares at you...RIGHT INTO YOUR SOUL. The gun fights, driving and investigative parts are very enjoyable and require to think a great bit before acting so that you don't f- up what so far is a very good investigation.

So thats my quick review, and when I finish up, I'll give you the full picture of what I thought. Adieu.

Games Workshop has sucked me in...Ahhhh!

So yeah, as I said I've been playing Dawn of War 2 and its certainly rekindled my love for Game Workshop's Warhammer 40k, both games and table top. So a bit of background on my 40k career...Started off with Eldar and that died quickly before I moved on to just an Imperium based force of Guardsmen, Marines and the Inquisition itself. So last week, I went and bought myself a squad of the new Grey Knight terminators and have to say, I'm impressed with the options they provide. But enough of my nerdgasm...

Onto the gaming aspect...Today, I spent my lovely sunny British day playing what I insist is a real jewel in first person shooters, you guessed it (or probably not), Fire Warrior. Most people just bypassed the game and it faded into the past with most critics giving it medium reviews. However, (and I may be biased) I found the game to be quite a buy. From the first drop on to a battlefield to fighting in a giant (albeit rusty and worn down) space ship to the Chaos infested landscapes, the game's levels gave enough variety to keep me interested to play through three or four times. The little touches, like a Leman Russ tank driving over the top of the trench you're in or watching your squad mates getting slaughtered as they try to take out a heavy bolter emplacement offered much more to the gaming experience.

One of its biggest downfalls was the dreadful AI found throughout the game with most enemies charging at you like cannon fodder whether they be lousy Imperial Guard or heavily armored Chaos Space Marine and its bugged ending boss (which I've never been able to kill) despite exhausting every piece of ammo in the level. However, the game's feeling and the narrative of the story is definitely one of the high points of what is an already a very enjoyable part of my collection. Can you survive 24 hours in a living hell while fighting the forces of the Emperor and his archenemy?

PRAISE MS!

Why hello there, nice of you to visit me on my nice new profile page on Giant Bomb! Nice to be here with you guys, but lets cut the bull, get straight to business. A vivid Xbox owner, MMO freak, Steam fan etc etc, my titles are one and all. With my newly acquired personal computer with some nice specs (3.0ghz AMD Athlon II X2, 4.00gb RAM, 1gb gfx card etc etc), I've finally got the chance to get back into PC Gaming...Huzzah!

Starting with Dawn of War 2 alongside its first expansion, Chaos Rising, and Empire: Total War (I'm a Brit so naturally, I want to play a game where I can dominate the world as the Brits), I've made my first foray into the heart of modern PC gaming...and I'm quite impressed. Since my last entry with Dawn of War: Soulstorm on the computer, it seems to me that we are making progress on what has in the past few years been called the decline of gaming on our personal computers. However, I disagree, on any game I play online, each has a dedicated following and I'm never left waiting for long on matches in games that no body even talks about anymore. Yes, its true that it isn't as popular as it once was, but surely we can't call this a decline if nobody's leaving our side of the fence?

On to MMOs, I'm a huge fan. If a new one comes out, you can expect my opinion on it if it catches my interest. Warhammer: Age of Reckoning, huge fan of it guys, and if you're looking for a new MMO, I'd suggest you try it, especially now with its unlimited free trial. With its dwindling player base, it certainly needs a welcome boost to its population. WoW's being a bitch about my account so it can go to hell...LotRO, 'sigh', where did Turbine and Codemasters go wrong in what was a great game? Finally, Guild Wars, great game for five minutes, gets boring after that...unless you have friends with which to play, then it becomes a very enjoyable game.

Regardless, lets talk about the current 'PSN Crisis'. Its been down what? 7 or 8 days? Sony have taken active steps to ensure that personal data is protected and are taking steps to ensure that it doesn't happen again in the near future. So you've been going without your online for that time? Some people are even going as far as demanding compensation for it. That's just ridiculous, unless you're a PSN Plus customer, you really shouldn't be complaining. PSN is a free service, so why should a mass player base get compensation for something they never paid for in the first place? And before you start to squabble, yes I have a PSN account and yes, my personal info is now in the hands of some hacker out there and I'm none too pleased either, but I'm glad that Sony is actually doing something about it instead of just saying 'Shit happens' and passing the blame on. Blowing things out of proportion is one thing, but for all you Sony fans out there who want monetary compensation...Just think, if everyone out there who is in bother gets it, you can kiss your ass goodbye to any new Sony consoles.

Finally, my Xbox 360...The love of my life. I'll leave it at that, but expect a review or two within the next while about several upcoming games, particularly the Battlefield 3 beta and Brink which (in my opinion) is shaping up to be a great game. PRAISE MS!
