Man, both those founders sound like asshole deuce.

The quotes in the Daily Beast article makes it sound like this Yusupov fellow was a completely unhinged monster, and Colin Kroll's past history didn't come off much better. A Fyre Festival that managed to keep appearances up for longer than it perhaps should.

@zeik: Talking about the game today is an unfair comparison and a mistake. It is 'the best' at a certain point in time, as are all games.

I would not recommend it as a first to anyone. But I would recommend it if someone wants to find peak moments in video gaming history.

@zeik: In an episode of Doctor Who, Ocarina of Time would be a fixed point in time.

In a Stephen King novel, Ocarina of Time would be the ur-thing that binds everything together.

In anything inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, Ocarina of Time would have tentacles for a face and be called an Old--something.

It is not that the game itself is the best right now. But it was an absolute revelation during a time when we were transitioning into new visual styles, gameplay styles, and ways of production. It was creativity abound. Something new from few things people could have imagined before it.

Now? A piece of nostalgia.

Then? One of the most talked-about adventures for anyone that played video games.

I do not think it fair to discount expansions of existing games, as it likely ties up a lot of personnel. The Starcraft 2 expansions may have had a lot of old assets going into them, but there was still a lot of both new stuff, and old stuff that had to change.

Was also thinking that this whole Warcraft III-debacle and Diablo: Immortals sounded like corporate decisions, instead of creative ones. How do we increase revenue? How do we do that while not spending too much money?

It increasingly sounds like the Warcraft III team had a vision, but budget and time constraints put dampers and limits on a lot of it.

@gundato: pants made of bark! Bark pants!

They also attract dogs through sound and smell.

The historical example for GB is Rico from Killzone, the most useless partner.

Tough question. It usually boils down to characters from Japanese games, since they almost always fit in a very defined archetype mold. Their one- or two-dimensional presentations are evident in Japanese, but come to full bear when translated, having to stand alongside English language counterparts.

I'll do a sharp turn and say Sylvanas Windrunner from the World of Warcraft franchise. Their latest story turn for this character made it evident no conclusion to her villainous storyline was to be had for a number of years. I was a staunch Horde player during my 'career' and already disliked having to run errands for the raging warchief, Garrosh Hellscream, during Mists of Pandaria. To now run errands and powerlessly witness another major Horde character seemingly serve her own selfish needs, and to an overt degree as to easily kill off a very beloved Horde NPC, completed the one-two-punch.

If what you want is to market the PS5 to existing players, it feels like the right move. If, however, you're looking to keep growing the player base this may bite them in the back. E3 isn't just games press, but the one event where global media in general focus their eyes on the games industry.

It's a good way to control the future message, as Sony can selectively invite a collection of vetted influencers and media outlets to achieve a wide reach. It's also entirely possible mainstream media will chase this themselves.

How will it find new audiences?

BG2 is just fantastic, hands down. Not too convinced by the extra characters added in the Enhanced Edition by Beamdog, both in terms of story and the discrepancy in production quality. You won't miss out by skipping them, in my mind.

@nnpllc: second person perspective isn't the issue, as you say. The issue here is that they want you to not address another person directly. All solutions provided allow for this, and you need to make these smaller alterations first before being locked in analysis paralysis.

The best thing to do is to describe what must be done, and what will happen. You're writing a memo to yourself, that you could go back to and unmistakably understand precisely what needs to be done and what will or should happen when that is finished.

Example, using the first draft @nutter provided:

"Press Up - Down - Left - Right on the title screen. A ding sounds. The copyright should now change color.

Navigate to the second page of the title screen (the deposit coin page) and press down until copyright is highlighted. This launches a secret sound test and level select menu, allowing for practice to beat level 256.

---

Now, is this whole thread just a hidden advert for that gross-sounding game you're talking about?
