I'm REALLY looking forward to playing FFXIV. I'm on PS3 so I don't have access to the beta (or at least yet) so I'm having to bide my time til late August. Right now I'm installing FFXI, which is the one FF I've yet to play. I'd always heard mixed stuff about it but since I've never played an MMO, I thought I should familiarize myself with the genre a bit before jumping into FFXI.

I'm also playing Animal Crossing on my 3DS, and am eagerly awaiting The Last of Us. Elsewhere, SMTIV should also keep me busy during the last stretch of the wait til XIV.

What about y'all?

I have a lot of respect for what they've done, especially in light of the news popping up surrounding 4A's budget and working conditions. I'd heard the PS3 version was buggy but so far it is perfectly smooth, with well-timed loading screens. Honestly, I feel bad for not enjoying it because I think their consistency of atmosphere is really impressive.

But man, I couldn't care less! It's all too drab. The environments are doing nothing for me. Yes, I realize they are supposed to be ugly, but still.

Anyways, just felt like venting a bit. Big ups to the hard workers at 4A, who have made a very tight, solid game. I just happen to not be a big fan of shooters, nor do I find the setting inspiring.

Shooter fans should definitely give it a shot. Seems super competent!

Just finished watching this video that GamesRadar did and...

Loading Video...

On the one hand, this looks like a super sharp version of a game I still haven't played (big Burnout Paradise fan) and the gimmicky Wii U Gamepad additions are right up my alley. The lack of upcoming DLC support is a bummer for some but that doesn't bug me.

The part that worries me is the lack of analog triggers on the Wii U Gamepad and Wii U Controller Pro. I don't know who's playing the game in the above video but um, they are terrible. Crashing in every wall. I can't help but wonder: is that because of the lack of analog acceleration? Or is the player really bad? I suppose this is a real speed game. A binary on-off might not be the end of the world for acceleration.

For those who've played NFS Most Wanted, do you think not having access to analog triggers is a deal breaker?

I took a couple years of Japanese in university and while my aspirations of ever becoming fluent are rapidly vanishing, I'd prefer not forget what I've learned. This latest demo shows a primary focus on Kana and relatively simple Kanji. Seeing as how I've played this game already (er, several times, actually), I'm not too worried about missing some plot details. I see Play-Asia has it for about 75$, which isn't cheap, but I'm thinking of importing.

Any other games you recommend for a PS3 owner w/ relatively simple Japanese text? A kids' game which I'm already familiar with, like KH, seems like the safest of bets.

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of making a simple point and click adventure game with a lot of emphasis on storytelling and exploration and less about the puzzles.

That said, I feel like I should probably play more adventure games. The only ones that I've played are:

The Walking Dead

Machinarium

Grim Fandango

Monkey Island IV

Back to the Future

I enjoyed all of these (except BttF) and would love some recommendations, both classics and modern. I know Vinny is always harping on a bunch of adventure games, so I'll look into the quick looks he and the GB crew have done.
