The past few weeks we have been working to get the feel and style perfect for Aaargh, last week we released the first playable demo which is currently playable on our main site - Aaarghmageddon.com. We desperately need feedback on this, your thoughts will really help shape the way this game goes in terms of development. This is just the first step for Aaarghmageddon and we truly believe that with enough hard work and dedication we can achieve our goals and release a fully fledged game.
In terms of features the demo currently includes:
Basic Zombie Creation
Meat system
Human and Obstacle AI
GUI System
The new look and feel for Aaargh
Tutorials on how to play
Feel free to rip the game to shreds, tell us what you hate about it (or like?) if there is anything you think we should do or even.
Where we plan on going from here
Going from all the feedback everyone has given us so far we are currently streamlining the game-play, adding features and removing redundant pieces of the game. We hope to have a new demo by next week.
As we are a very small company (literally just two people at the moment) we rely on outside opinions more than most because as we are so focused on working towards this we play the game through rose-tinted glasses, we miss out some boring points in the game-play and over-hype the good parts. We need the good people of Giantbomb to rip apart the game and tell us exactly what they do and don't like. Just let us know!
Things at the moment pretty much took a back-seat while I studied for my degree along with work to pay the rent, however next year I'm free from all of that so I will be working full-time on a few projects for Rampant Studios. The most "Complete" game which we are currently testing out is Aaarghmageddon( http://www.aaarghmageddon.com), however we plan on changing the whole style of it after trying out numerous play-styles for it.
We felt the best course of action was to start over and create a 2D version with better graphics, a more stable system and a huge improvement in game-play. Rampant Studios is now working with DreamFever, which is ran by ex-Jagex artist Kris Fosh, to create our current games.
Lazarus
After an attempt to fund Lazarus fell through, things slowly ground to a halt as stuff like paying the rent caught up with me. However in the new year I plan to restart the development of the project without any funding bids until there is something more concrete for people to get behind. I plan on doing this by working on several small games which can be quickly developed and releasing a couple of current games on the mobile markets.
So..
That's pretty much everything that I've been doing recently, other than working frantically to get coursework on track and completing design documents. I'm really looking forward to getting started in the new year and really getting into the projects. This year has been amazing so far with the set-up of my own business and meeting some fascinating people along the way. I look forward to seeing you all in the new year!
After a couple of stressful weeks, we are finally reaching our target of releasing a tech demo showcasing our game by the end of the month. Bamboo Raven are pulling out some great artwork along with constantly surprising us with new ideas.
So we decided to take a night off and brought along a camera.
We have updated our deadline to before the first of October in accordance to the EuroGamer entry deadlines. By this time we will have the gameplay mechanics in along with a few levels and a survival mode within the game, allowing players to get a feel for what the final product will be. Bamboo Raven have recently sent over some 3D renderings of Lazarus. Personally I think they are great and show a lot of promise for the future. Along with these renderings we also recently posted a very basic overview of the HUD system along with some rough particle effects, you can find that here.
Plans for this week?
We hope to have the HUD fully implemented along with a Drag and Drop system for the spells using Scaleform Clik. We also intend to create a few more spell effects such as the Area of Effect spells along with working on a targeting system.
