@rangers517: That's kind of reassuring but then again it's the devs saying it so I'll wait and see. More interesting (or perplexing) is the idea that people asked to have an option to play the remaster with half the framerate that all games should run at.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. I have definitely seen a lot of people saying 60 fps will make it look weird in cinematics and stuff. I don't agree with that at all , but I guess giving an option can't hurt and hopefully they're right about it not dipping from 60

I use it on hot dogs and some kinds of sandwiches.

The only time I've been grossed out by mustard is when every once in a while, it somehow ends up in a fast food burger I'm eating. Whoever thought that was a good idea should be fired..

Based on Rorie's comments, my suggestion of the community policing itself more vigilantly doesn't seem like a realistic option. If the problems are that pervasive.... then yeah, heavier moderation may be the best way.

Has there ever been consideration for putting more access behind the paywall? Having some members-only forums and chats, stuff along those lines. Obviously a double-edged sword, but I would think that's an easy way to weed out a lot of the garbage. May not be feasible or even a consideration, but just a thought. I'm a paying member, so I'm obviously biased. Although, for all I know, paying members could be a large part of the problem. One would think they would have a more vested interest in making the place awesome but people are weird.

I can't really think of a solution to that live stream/chat problem, especially. It seems to be a problem on every streaming site on the internet when there are women on a stream.

Heck, every time I load up Live from PlayStation the top streams are all playroom streams with females on them and I'm sure you can guess what the guys in the chat are requesting for them to do.

Besides just trying to ban all those people, it seems like a hard problem to solve.

4chan hates Patrick and LBGT issues with a passion. If you see any people with new accounts posting here about that or trolling hard when something like that explodes its probably them.

I kinda wrote that badly..I meant that all those bad comments were on Gamespot and that I've never seen any of that here. But yeah, maybe making new accounts wait a day would be one change that makes sense because I have seen the mods have to deal with a lot of new accounts over the last couple days.

Comments are fairly tame most of the time on the site. If anything, comments on Youtube videos are a bit of a problem.

New accounts not posting for a week is a great way to get new users to not want to be a part of the community.

Embedded tweets should be regulated as much as a post.

Moderators do a fine job. Maybe they should just be more strict? eh, who knows. BTW, there is already a female moderator. No clue what race all of them are, it doesn't really matter anyway.

Wasn't the harassment on twitter and other sites, Giant Bomb seemed fine, or atleast it was moderated before I saw it.

This and this. You people need to spend actual time on the forums if you think this stuff is common. I've never seen anything as vile as what was being said on Twitter on Giant Bomb by anyone but new users, and only extremely rarely at that (we're talking like once every six months, probably). You're being gaslit by the people freaking out on Twitter who have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. No, Giant Bomb's community isn't bad. It's fantastic. In fact, I couldn't find you a better video game community... period. I've looked. It doesn't exist. GAF might be a contender, but I can't even sign up to that site, so... fuck that.

There is nothing that can be done that isn't already being done, short of whatever statement Jeff & Co. are going to make.

Yep. I don't think they need to change anything at all here. The GB forums (and GAF) don't put up with slurs and harassment and stuff like that. I rarely see any of that stuff. Of course since these are large video game communities of mostly males in there teens and early 20's they are going to have some trolls and even worse sometimes, but then you ban them.

The worst I've seen(since I dont go on 4chan and stuff) was when someone linked to the Gamespot GTA 5 review when a huge amount of people were attacking Carolyn Petit. I had the comments (on Gamespot) set to newest and I just sat there watching comment after comment roll in filled with slurs and death threats. I've defintely never seen anything like that here on this site.

Giant bomb is way more about bat fights and Triple A hair than it is about discussing serious social issues, regardless of your background. I can't see how if you are a fan of the site you wouldn't want it to stay that way.

Yeah, I don't get it either. If you want to see a bunch of articles about how the new Assassin's Creed is sexist or whatever, there are sites for that like Kotaku. This site has always mostly been about funny dudes talking about or talking over games. This site's so popular because there is a huge audience of people that don't care about that political stuff (especially in video games) and just want to be entertained. To do the content that they excel at I think Dan is absolutely the best and most qualified choice.

i think that the not-so big jump in logic here that a few folks are missing is that making the extra effort to seek out women/people of color during the hiring process is NOT "discrimination"/"reverse racism"/"reverse sexism"/"tokenism"/whatever other word you use to signify how uncomfortable you are with marginalized groups in more influential positions.

See, I want to really hold this up as an example. I state that when I see people discriminated against for their sex, race or orientation (or anything else like age, marital status, religion, etc) it makes me upset, and when I'm discriminated against, it hurts me as much as it would hurt anyone else. I am stating publicly that I am not invulnerable, I can be discriminated against, I recognize how negative it is, and I don't want discrimination.

However, what this really means is that I'm uncomfortable with seeing a minority in a position of authority. By expressing my distaste for discrimination and asking for it not to be applied to me, I am told that I'm being actively bigoted.

That's quite the leap of logic you're making there.

I am what people would consider a privileged white guy. I can't really change that, because I am white, and I have to admit that I have been pretty fortunate in life, all things considered. Seeing discrimination makes me upset, but while there may be a certain amount of discrimination against white men, it's not nearly in any way comparable to the discrimination that other groups suffer now or have suffered in the past. When people see Giant Bomb, a site that was already comprised entirely of white men in the very exclusive club that is the game journalism establishment, hire two more white men that are well-established in the field, that's disappointing.

I don't consider it racist or sexist in any way that they went with Dan and Jason. However, I am disappointed that they went to the rolodexed establishment rather than any of the numerous other voices that put in their applications, whether their experience came from smaller game websites, Youtube, or what have you. As TruthTellah suggested in another thread, hiring a young lady with an active interest in Nintendo would have really shaken things up, which is something I think Giant Bomb really needs. More diverse voices. Whether that be a woman that likes Nintendo or a black guy that has an encyclopedic knowledge or JRPGs, it doesn't really matter. I just wanted to see someone honestly, truly new. Expressing such a desire doesn't make me bigoted toward my own race or gender because that is a patently ridiculous notion.

From what I've heard/seen on his twitter Dan really likes Nintendo stuff more than the other guys, so it sounds like someone got their wish. (unless they would only want to see someone talk about Nintendo stuff if they were female)

I was following those threads for most of the day yesterday and I didn't see much of anything bad that would require them to shut down the comments sections or anything. Those women were harassed on twitter and that seemed to be mostly because their tweets complaining about GB hiring males were linked on a mens rights subreddit and was on the first page.

Just because these women and their followers on twitter have now been saying, "Nuh uh! It was your community and you need to moderate better" doesn't make it true.
