I feel like I'm missing something. I loved the first Infamous, really enjoyed what I played of the 2nd, and purchased a PS4 largely for this game. Unfortunately...I cannot stand playing it. I keep seeing posts that the game really picks up when you get the second power but I have absolutely 0 motivation to keep playing.
When trying to take over a Mobile Command Unit I feel like I'm constantly having to go hide in a corner because my screen is turning B&W. This is largely because when a guard does anything my (supposedly superhero) character is stunned for a full second or, even worse, the concrete power causes my feet to be stuck in the ground for long enough to check my controller battery level. This isn't helped by the fact that the guards around the Mobile Command Units feel like they spawn almost endlessly and the mechanic for destroying the Mobile Command Units is terrible and is interrupted if a guard sneezes in my direction.
I tried collecting additional shards but I don't see any powers that would help curb the frustrations I'm having with the game. I'm playing a good karma character and most of the upgrades are get smoke quicker, use less smoke, hold more smoke, etc. I would like an upgrade that makes my power seem like is has an affect on the supertroopers. I also have the power to stun enemies with a headshot but once they are stunned I've still got to run directly at the group of 10 guards to try and stun the two I hit with a headshot before they regain their composure and resume trying to murder me with concrete. After doing this then I have to go hide behind a box for 5-10 seconds because my world has lost all of its color.
I haven't played the other Infamous games in a few years but moving around the city seems worse than in the first game. You are failing to make me feel like a superhero when I wish I could just jump in a car to get where I'm going and I seem to have a hard time determining what Mr. Infamous can and cannot use as a ledge. Sometimes he has super Assassin's Creed style figertips and sometimes he refuses to try to grab ledges that even I could grasp. Based on what I'm hearing, the 2nd power will help with a lot of the problems I have with the traversal but right now I don't have a desire to get to that point. I know that most of the talk in this thread is very positive about everything except for the story, which oddly I think has been handled well up to this point, so I would like to get some advice on whether you guys (or gals) think I'm doing something wrong or if this game just isn't for me?
