Sorry mate you'll have to clarify that for me.  I didn't really mean to accuse you of begging for free stuff (although that is exactly what I said) but it seems like you've just said you don't want free stuff but you won't buy everything.  Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.  For my money your either going to have to lift a lot out of your spares parts box or up your friends budget.  I don't think that $100 is enough to buy a dual core let alone everything else you'll need. "
what I mean by that is I will use stuff lying around the house, so not everything will be new, but I'm not asking for donations.
Pretty sure this weeks Microcenter ad has a special $69.99 for a Quad core AMD + free motherboard (Don't know how much of that was rebates though

TF2.  Stupid Item Trading takes up more time than the game itself.

That's what makes it a challenge dude.
Spare parts I plan to use:
- case
- power supply
- RAM
- hard drive (wiped of course)

Stuff to buy for $100
- mobo
- proc
- graphics card

With the aid of the weekly micro center add I might be able to pull this off.

 SC2 Recommended specs

  • Windows Vista®/Windows® 7   <- This is going to be XP because I have a license lying around somewhere
  • Dual Core 2.4Ghz Processor
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 512 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 GTX or ATI Radeon® HD 3870 or better

Yeah,  In Mario Kart DS it was super annoying to have like a 1/2 lap lead on 2nd place, and then get hit with like 4 blue shells on the last lap.  Maybe the shell should create a giant explosion at the location of the person in 1st at the time the shell is launched...  So you could catch yourself in the blast too, and it would most likely hit around 4th.

SCII recommended spec is only like 8800, 2.4 ghz dual core.  Honestly its not that bad.

Monitor? Keyboard?    EDIT: Your current PC can't be that bad if it can play TF2.  Why don't you just post your specs and let us see what you have to work with.  I doubt you need a whole new rig. "

What I meant by freebies was that I wont be BUYING every single component of this build, not that I want free stuff from people.

When you launch a blue shell it should pick up your kart and drop you on top of the dude in 1st.

Yeah, the PC is going to a friend, I myself have a fairly nice PC right now (core i7 860, 4870 etc.)
Basically I need to come up with a mobo, graphics card, and proc for $100, because I'm pretty sure I can come up with the other stuff from the box of spare parts in the basement.

This winter, I will be undertaking a monumental challenge.  I will be attempting to build a computer capable of running Starcraft II on a budget of just $100.

Here are the rules
 - Freebies are totally OK (i.e. spare parts lying around)
- The PC has to meet the SCII Recommended Requirements
- Basically my cost < $100

Any suggestions on parts and such?  I'm probably going with AMD at this point
