Glad to hear. I've heard too many stories of people losing games and HD data!

I doubt there is going to be a 'slim' so much as there will be a model that is pretty much the same size as the current models only without that atrocious power brick.

Though honestly I think they would be better off just allocating any free space gained by this smaller mother board to better cooling.

Ouch! Terrible luck I suppose. I have never heard of anybody having this kind of trouble with the PS3.

No matter how well engineered something may be, there is always going to be a failure rate, so hearing of failed PS3s is by no means surprising to me, but man.. rough luck.

..course, you read all the posts going down this thread, and how many people have gone through 2 or more 360s? heh.

Back when I bought my PS3, it was $400. I strongly considered a 360, but in retrospect, I am so glad I didn't buy one.

I guess the only reason there are so many people who put up with this bullshit is merely because they have invested so much into it.
Physical games, DLC, XBLA games... poor bastards. If they tried to sell their 360 and games, they would never make enough to replace all the applicable games with ps3 counter parts.

This is the only reason a friend of mine still uses the 360, he has simply invested too much.

You need to understand something here:

In Linux, you DO NOT have access to the PS3's RSX (the graphics chip).

What does this mean? That wonderful app (XBMC) that is the only reason so many of us keep an original xbox in the living room never got made for it.

So really, Linux on the PS3 was a joke. So I don't give a fuck.

The lack of access to the RSX under linux made this feature a joke anyway, so whatever.

@sickVisionz:
The only reason I was considering it is because my friends have them and I would like to be able to borrow games.

Every once in a while a friend and myself swap consoles (Him with my PS3 and me with his 360), but I usually just end up playing games like Mass Effect  or Dead Space... I liked both of these enough that I own Mass Effect on PC and Dead Space on PS3.

Other than Forza 3 and Fable 2, he doesn't even really have any exclusives..

I agree that it would make me a more rounded gamer to own a 360, and really I hesitate over this because I have limited funds, it's just my tax return, so I need to be picky about when I buy with it.

I'll just let this go by. A new motherboard has been leaked out that combines both the GPU and CPU into a single die with re-arranged I/O ports, so maybe a 360 slim is on the way.  My biggest pet peeve with the console is how unreliable they have been, and since this one isn't a Jasper, I'm not thrilled in that area.
