I would say that I'm proud that both Sony and Nintendo had grown entirely to compete with Microsoft. With Microsoft leading back then when the Wii or PS3 is still maturing, I could say that Wii is beating both Microsoft and Sony but only on console figures not the gaming demographic. There are plenty of criticisms with these two consoles, usually not generated enough excellent games rather than 3rd party to multiplatform whose content was okay but not great. Towards this year, a brighter future is in Sony and Nintendo's led with a plethora of exclusives and exciting online to offline content which makes me somewhat willing to purchase both of these consoles but only I could get that in a dream.
2006-08
When this new Nintendo console was announced, many speculated about the weirdness of its merits, both towards the name and how the motion controls works. At E3 06, It was really jaw-dropping to see the Wii playable and through its motion sensing capabilities as well as the guaranteed price. Well through this current decade, Nintendo's marketing tends to make it, a bargain to consumers, to satisfy them. As well as the previous E3's, the newly Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess debut, first on the Gamecube but at E3 06, it was featured and played at Nintendo's showfloor on the Wii. This hit title was ideal for hardcore to any interested gaming enthusiast and when Nintendo Wii launched, it was, along with a casual game bundled upon it, Wii Sports. This bundled game became popular through its past-times, as ages alike played it. When this console launched, it was high in demand and it sold out quickly to households everywhere as well as other Nintendo products like the DS.
Coming along towards 07 and 08, there "aren't" many excited games towards the usual audience but yet Nintendo still satisfies the core/casual/family audience with Virtual Console games hitting the nostalgia towards us. It wasn't that satisfying until games like No More Heroes and Metroid Prime: Corruption came out, it was ideal but yet insufficient. But this year, with the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the advantage of its motion sensing abilities, its truly the hype, we wished for. Towards the end of this year, the potential of the Wii and the recently announced DS-i will become a success in "both" gaming and console figures towards core and hardcores alike.
While Nintendo's success when releasing the Wii. Sony's Playstation 3 did what Sony does best, "stunning" graphics and the newly dvd format, Blue-Ray. When this launched, like Nintendo, the only game that is in interested, is Resistance: Fall of Man. It created this whole "ridculous" debacle of GoW or Resistance which is just crazy for standards but not in fanboy's principles. Anyways, around 07, with delays of MGS4 and multi-platformers crisis, there was a completion between Blue-ray and Microsoft's High Def, in the format wars. And in the end, Blue-ray won as a technological essence of power. In 07, "the new 1998", even though multi-platformers are content with this console, it still shares a excellent experience with everyone, with the release of Call of Duty 4, Rock Band and such. It wasn't yet a experience shared through the pinnacle of the PS2 ages when exciting exclusives and anime-related RPGs were released. Not until this year, when the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots came out, rivaling Grand Theft Auto 4, and the continuation of the Playstation's true potential, with LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2. Like Nintendo, the real fun is had by all this year and towards the next year.
So yeah, it advanced or grown to be as the balance rim, both the gaming demographic and consoles figures towards all competitors. No unfairness at all towards all gaming enthusiasts alike.
