1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I hated Oblivion. I have developed a growing hatred of open-world games created by the overabundance of those games which create open worlds because hey you need one in a modern game, right? Skyrim, thought hilariously broken on my PS3, is a phenomenal and overwhelming game which tickles my need for a story driven game filled with wonder.
2. Batman: Arkham City
Batman? Check. More Batman? Check. No need to go any farther.
3. Portal 2
Continuing with the "I hated the previous game in the series but love this one" trend, the sense of humor in Portal 2 was enough for me to truck through this puzzler.
4. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
I loved Alpha Protocol despite how broken it was. Deus Ex tackles the same starved genre brilliantly.
5. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Uncharted 2.5 (ha...ha.....ha........) underwhelmed me. I was upset. Then I remembered that I was being underwhelmed by a game that still blows everything else away with its visuals and set pieces. Sure, the gameplay is oversimplified and the gunplay infuriating and the "enemy closets" returned from the first game, but damn is the game still a heart pumping romp.
6. inFamous 2
They didn't tweak it in the ways I would've hoped, but inFamous 2 still builds off of one of the greatest foundations for open-world gameplay I've played. The level editor isn't all that necessary, the new powers are all that rewarding, and Zeke is still alive, but I'll take it.
Isometric games return!
8. Dragon Age II
I'm a console gamer. Thank the maker that they scrapped all that PC-friendly crap in the first game for a more enjoyable experience. Yes, I realize what I just said infuriates many of you. All well.
9. Saints Row: The Third
Whereas Just Cause 2 had long breaks between all the insanity, Saints Row: The Third throws the kitchen sink at you at all times, making an open-world game that feels overflowing with content.
10. L.A. Noire
I think the tech behind this game will age very poorly, but for now the way the facial expressions and tight interrogation system work is enough for me to be a huge fan of this game.
