Donkey Kong Country (SNES) is a great game and I will fight you with my fists if you disagree.

I was actually really looking forward to this when Daisy Ridley's name was being floated around to star, but I'm not sold on Vikander, even if she was great in Ex Machina. Time shall tell.

I've been working on Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. I'm currently on book 7/7 and hoping to finish this month.

After Herbert's Dune series, this has to be one of the toughest set of novels I've ever attempted to push through. That's not to say the series is bad, but there are definite slow spots (particularly book 4, Wizard and Glass) and it is exceedingly long with lots of detours. The series is absolutely loaded with pop culture references and the themes of fate/destiny are almost overbearing. That being said, King's signature style is present and at least keeps things interesting. The fourth wall gets broken in a way I've never experienced before, with mostly positive results. Considering the tale starts as western, you'll be very surprised at what it eventually becomes.

I probably would only recommend this series if you have a lot of free time (I've been deployed, so there's not much else to do) or if you're extremely excited for the upcoming movie.

I had a baby (woohoo!) and spent much of the year deployed (boo!), so new movie-watching took a backseat in 2016. Still, I have a few worth mentioning:

  • 10 Cloverfield Lane
  • The Jungle Book
  • Captain America: Civil War
  • Zootopia
  • Deadpool

Sadly, I found The Witch to be over-hyped and really did not enjoy it. I respect the strict adherence to the period and unique style, but I found it neither entertaining nor scary. Hopefully I can catch up on the rest of the good stuff when I get back to the states.

If you like Sly Cooper, you play Sly Cooper.

The lack of a map alone is almost a deal breaker for me. I'm also a bit wary about retro-style Metroidvanias as I slogged through Axiom Verge last month and found much of the game design frustratingly archaic. That being said, you make some valid points and the content at least sounds interesting. I'll add it to my watch list and keep an eye on the price. Thanks for sharing, OP.

Back around 2004-5 when Gmail came out I made a few different accounts (personal/business/spam) but even with filters on each one gets more random BS email that I know what to do with. It's at the point where I don't really ever check them anymore.

Do you try to keep your inbox at zero? What's your email strategy beyond just making new ones every so often and starting over from zero?

While not totally useless, its usefulness has certainly declined with the ubiquity of cell phones and the quality of group messaging apps. Still nice for official documents though. If you really want a productive inbox, consider starting anew with an address you only use for business and personal communications and never provide it to any websites. There are also numerous extensions and filters which can help you manage things more cleanly.

Hellboy. 3/4.

A fun movie that came out before the dark days of DC or the lighthearted fare Marvel would become known for. You can see the Spiderman and X-men influences, but Del Toro gives it a unique visual flair. Here's hoping we can see part 3 some day.

Nice strategy. Of all things to pre-order, big first-party Nintendo games are probably most likely to deliver on quality, even if they don't blow you away.

It may very well be all in my head, but I definitely prefer bottles. Aficionados will tell you all beer should be consumed from cans to avoid UV exposure that can cause skunkiness, but I've never noticed enough of a taste difference to sway me away from the long necks.
