Pokecrawl Logo 2.0

Less then a month till PAX East and I can't wait. Last year was my first PAX and I loved every minute. I started my PAX last year on Thursday night witht he First annual Pokecrawl. Me and 3 other friends joined Team Blue in support of Squirtle. A buddy of mine designed an image and I made t-shirts for anyone who wanted to donate five bucks to Child's Play, the barcrawl isn't just about drinking you know. They were a big hit. Everyone there was friendly and I was able to talk to a lot of PAX vets about what I was in for the next three days.
We have decided to do the bar crawl again and we are doing the shirts again. Here is this years image.  I wasn't sure about adding the Mudkip but my buddy who designed it loves them. What do you think?? Can't wait for PAX!

Peggle Challenge Levels. part one.

I really enjoy Peggle. I first played it on PC after hearing the GFW guys talk about it. From then on I bought it on most of the platforms it came out on. I've played it the most on my 5th Generation iPod. At PAX East I entered a Peggle tourney and came in second place. I had not played the 360 version that much, that was the version that was at the tourney. Going from the small screen of an iPod to a TV was a bit of a shock. So in case there is another tourney at PAX East this year I wanted to practice.

So I decided I would try to S-Rank Peggle as practice. I'm about 75% of the challenges done. I still need to full clear a couple of levels that we're just a bit too tricky when i tried them once or twice. Beating the random levels can be easy if you luck out. I was working on the 5 in a row and missed the last peg by a spec and failed. That triggered some nerd rage.

I enjoy listening to music or podcasts while playing. But i zone out a lot and I'm not focusing on my shots, which is kinda a bummer. Anyway really love this game and I hope to write more later about my progress.

Thoughts on Puzzle Quest 2 and Deathspank

I played a lot, maybe too much, Puzzle Quest on the DS. I took it where ever I went. It was a nice game to veg out to. When it came out on Live Arcade something in me made me insta-buy it. Since I was so used to playing it on the small screen I found it weird playing it with a controller and on my TV. I had to think about which platform I wanted to get the sequel for. My DS is collecting dust on my table with an unplayed copy of Bowser's Inside story next to it. I decided to go for the Live Arcade version of Puzzle Quest 2...well let's face it. I need points.

I never played  Galactrix and I didn't check out the Puzzle game on PC so it's been awhile since I've played these games. That is part of the reason I am having a blast playing it. There is a story...but I'm not really playing attention to it. I'm following in the footsteps of a Paladin. The map took a little bit to get used to but once you do it's fine. It's a great game to veg out to and listen to music OR like I am doing, catching up on Podcasts. I am playing a Barbarian and I've figured out a good spell rotation to defeat the baddies. The bashing doors and loot mini-games are a nice addition. The loot element is ok although I don't change my weapons that often...which might be bad. I found a powerful weapon and want to keep it. I've played for about 6 hours and I would recommend it to anyone who played the first one or any version of this type of game.

If you tell me Ron Gilbert is making a game, I will hang you however much money you want as long as you point me in the direction of said game. The humor is good. The combat is decent. The inventory is a little annoying. I like the idea of killing minions to charge up your weapon. The only downside is I'll use it up on a barrel or a lower level baddie. I thought Torchlight had a great idea with giving the loot you don't want to your pet and they run to town for you. This game takes it a step further and allows you to grind up the loot you don't need or have upgraded and turns it into money (patent pending). The game also looks good. It reminds me of Super Mario Galaxy because the worlds are  circular and move as you do. The world doesn't totally spin around like Galaxy but it has that feeling. If you enjoyed Torchlight I would recommend this game.

With Puzzle Quest and Deathspank coming out back to back and next week kicking off "The Summer of Arcade" downloadable games are taking up my time. I've still been playing Crackdown 2 a little but when i turn on the X-Box I go right to my games library. I've been excited for Limbo for about three years. I got to play a little bit of it at PAXEast in April. It might be the game I'm looking forward to the most this year. I really hope it delivers. Even if it doesn't buying a 360 is worth it just for the titles you can download in Arcade.

Crackdown 2 quick thoughts.

I picked up Crackdown 2 and played about three hours of it. This is my story.

I enjoyed the first Crackdown, surprisingly I didn’t buy it for the Halo “beta”. The hunt for orbs kept me searching and searching the world for hours. So when I loaded up the second one I enjoyed seeing how the world had changed. Instead of killing an endless supply of cronies while trying to get to the boss at the top, this time you are turning on three beams so you can drop a light bomb on the freaks….completely different.

There are also day and night cycles in this one. During the day you fight gang members and then at night you fight freaks, mutated gang members. There are interesting light weapons you can use against the freaks. I found a light grenade and a light shot gun that really helps. But the light grenade does nothing against the gang members and since you can only carry one grenade at a time, this is kind of a pain in the neck.

To turn on the beams you have to stand on a pad for 10 to 15 seconds to power it up. Before you can stand there you have to take out a small army of gang members. I found it easy to clear these gang members out. Once you have activated three beams you move to the Freak Lair and have to stop the freaks from attacking the light bomb. It takes a few minutes to power up and armies of freaks show up to attack. The game will mark certain freaks that do extra damage to the bomb so you should rush over there to attack them. This part I found slightly annoying. Each time I tried to detonate a light bomb I would fail on the first attempt and get it the second. The freaks always go to the same place so on second attempt it is much easier to protect it.

I cleared the first island of the game. That was turning on 9 light beams and detonating 3 light bombs. Each detonation was the same thing in a slightly different looking cave. You can also attack gang strong holds. This involves killing a certain amount of gang members in the area. Once you start these a bar appears in the right corner of the screen. It goes down as you kill each gang member.

Find the Orbs is still really fun. The game starts off by putting you somewhere with an objective but there were tons of Orbs around the area so I just went collecting those instead of killing gang members. Eventually I went and did what the announcer told me to do but there was no penalty for doing your own thing and collecting orbs.

If you enjoyed the first game go ahead and check this out. If you like open world games where you can hunt for power ups, go and grab this game. If you like open world games with good shooting and driving, then you might want to not grab this game.
