@RockmanBionics

I'd settle for an entirely new IP so long as there was actual data on the toys so you could eventually get more levels, characters etc than was on the disc.

I wonder if that's necessary. To put that much memory on the actual device just to store level data would probably be prohibitively expensive (people are already complaining about the things costing $8!)

I don't see a problem with the shipping game disc having extra content already on there that they will sell in the future. There's really no difference between that and them having DLC already produced for the game and waiting to release it until the time is right.

Skylanders was in development for a long time - a lot of that time was spent building out all of these 'extra' levels and characters so that when the game ships, all that data is already on the disc. There's nothing wrong with them wanting to charge extra for that content because that was the intention from the beginning. The entire game is delayed release in order to get all that extra stuff on there.

I think Skylanders is a great IP with interesting characters and I am excited to see where they take it.

@DarkFury said:

Have you/has anyone tried using the characters across these 2 versions? Is leveling/XP retained and built up from playing both versions, despite being different games?

EDIT: You totally can move characters between console and 3DS versions, they even have different abilities based on the general level of your character.

Yes, I've been going back and forth between the games with the characters. I don't recommend doing this because not only is the button configuration different, but, like you said, they have different abilities depending on the game you're playing. It gets confusing.

I do think the 3DS version is more of a "game", especially for the type of person who likes to get 100% stars in mario games, etc. You are basically replaying levels over and over, each time with a different goal in mind. Every level has a final challenge that is basically a 'speed run' with a countdown timer. Nothing has been terribly difficult, though. Nonetheless, it is very entertaining.

I am constantly surprised at the overall level of quality in the console version, especially in the writing/voice acting. I am reminded of PS2-era Ratchet and Clank games, which had character banter that made you belly-laugh. The comedy in this game is spot-on - remaining appropriate for kids but not annoying insipid for adults. I actually look forward to the cut scenes! (especially ones with the villain and his goblin side-kick).

I have both and recommend both. Really, it's the first exclusive 3DS game worth owning that isn't a port of an old N64 game. It's challenging if you decide to replay each level to achieve ALL goals.

I have one character of each element, that way I don't miss any content along the way.

The 360 version is more kid-friendly (forgiving). I watched as my 5-year old son and his friend played, and they had no problem following the story, completing the tasks, and switching to the appropriate character at the right times. I have also played the game on my own and again, it can be challenging if you are concerned with doing everything 100%. The cinematics are movie-quality - GREAT voice acting and very good writing. The kids were compelled (normally they look for the button to skip cutscenes... not this game!). There's some humor in there that's meant for the slightly older crowd, as well.

I think they are both very well crafted games. The characters have such distinct personality and abilities that you WANT to try them all out.

Toys r Us is having a buy 2 get one 3 free deal, so I was able to save some money.

ps. why the negative remarks about this game? I haven't listened to the bombcast yet - do the Giant Bomb guys react negatively to the games?

I'm new here but thought I would chime in. Hello!

I started Darksiders and after 3 hours I am hooked. I love how silky smooth the combat is. Not challenging, but fun. The art style is very easy on the eyes. I look forward to seeing all of the crazy enemy designs along the way.
What got me interested in Darksiders was playing Ocarina of Time 3D. I heard Darksiders follows a similar structure to Zelda games, and that is certainly correct. I just completed the Forest Temple in OOT (had to consult a walkthrough on more than a few occasions!).
I'm also getting pretty deep into The Witcher 2, but since Darksiders that has been put on a back-burner.
On the consoles, I'm playing Castlevania Lords of Shadow (controls pretty similar to Darksiders so I have been able to switch back and forth without too much confusion).
Also on the back-burner is Alan Wake, which I adore. I am often just amazed at how SMOOTH that game looks and feels. It really is a joy to simply run around the forest in that game. It's starting to feel a bit 'samey' though. Don't know if the gameplay changes up at some point.
Kinect Sports and Adventure are good to pick up with the kids are around. Great way to spend a rainy day!
Recently downloaded Doritos Crash Course and am stunned at how much I like that game. Also working my way through Trials HD.
A game that I pick up every so often throughout the year is Braid, and I am happy to say that I only have 2 more puzzle pieces to go!
Also, I often cleanse the palate with some NFS: Hot Pursuit.
In addition to all of that, I am constantly trolling Steam to pick out new purchases. Now that I see all of that written down I can't imagine how I manage to keep all of that in rotation! But, I do :-/

Anyone want to add me to their friends list, feel free. Looking for more gamer friends: robcat09

Hi -  I'm obsessed with Giantbomb, quick looks, and the bombcast!
I am looking to fill my friends lists with like-minded gamers out there.  Sadly, my lists are all empty because I don't know any people who are into games like I am. *tear* :'-(  so add me!
robcat09 on PSN, xbox live and steam. I also own all of the current handhelds.

I adore the challenge of Eden, but can find it very frustrating at times. There's something maddening about reaching new-found heights with the clock almost run out, making a leap of faith to grab a time bonus, and plummeting 1,000 down to the ground with no time bonuses around anywhere.

What I am now trying to do is manage my time better. I go for lots of 5 pollen prowler combos and also always try to pollenate at least two seeds at once. Both of these yield a nice amount of time bonus to keep you going.

Anyone else have any strategies managing time in this game?
