Hrm... Well this seems like a mistake... I obviously know nothing about the development, but I would think 1313 would have sold like hotcakes. Especially if they got it out in time for the next generation launch. It barely even matters if it's a good game if it looks like that and comes out in time for a console launch, no one would care if it turned out to be tomorrow's Perfect Dark Zero, it would have sold just based on how many people are freaking out about the graphics alone and how hungry people always are for new games around a system launch. Peculiar...

And so it's gone, before I even had a chance to enjoy it. I had such grand plans for this franchise... I was living with two friends when the first game was revealed. Already being Guitar Hero fans, we'd already started making plans for who should be on what instrument and how the heck we're supposed to split the cost of a game into three to justify buying it at that time. Such plans we had for that game...

And then it took about another year to come out in Europe. We'd all moved apart by then. But it was okay, things are bound to change, I thought, and this series doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I'll just play some more Guitar Hero 3.

Alas, we're at the end of a game generation now and my life is still in a place where I don't have the social network nor the financial stability to feel good about buying into a game like this. RB3 is especially tantalizing, to a hobby keyboardist... Oh well, maybe the franchise will come back one day in the future. Or I'll find someone who already owns a wardrobe full of plastic instruments that we can play with. Or the world will forget about the plastic instrument craze forever more and I'll pretend I never wanted to try it. I guess time will tell.

Man... Games that require other people are the best thing in the world, until they become the worst thing in the world.

NOBODY should buy this.

The hipster piece of shit dev does not deserve our PC-gamer money.

He initially said PCs are not for gaming and only good for Excel tables. He also said Japanese games suck.

But I wouldn't expect Patrick to know such things or just sweep it under the rug, anyway.

I'm going to buy it because I want to play it.

Now what? Huh?

On another note, if Anita wanted to be taken seriously, she wouldn't have disabled comments and ratings just because she's afraid of a little criticism. I'm aware that she received some particularly sexist remarks from some of her critics, but surely there's a way to moderate them so that the praise and the constructive, reasonable criticism shines through.

She did do that. She disabled comments where there was nothing but personal attacks and trolling, and encouraged those actually interested to participate via blogs instead. That is her form of moderating. I'll withhold further judgement until I've watched the video, myself, but I don't believe it can really be that bad considering the first person I heard of it from is renowned animator and feminist Lauren Faust. She's one of the most levelheaded people I've ever heard speak up about this stuff, so if she approves of it, surely there's gotta be something to it...?

Edit: Just watched it. No idea what the fuss is about. The first 21 out of 24 minutes were completely objective, a tiny bit of healthy soapbox near the end and a cliffhanger that made me genuinely interested in the next part. Is it really just a collection of conclusions other people have made put in a tidy box and presented as one video? Yes, it is. Just like the vast majority of documentaries that have ever been made. That's actually the true value of a documentary, as far as I'm concerned; The ability to summarize a vast field of knowledge into an easily digestible package and present it to a large audience that would never do the research on their own. Done and done.

.

Brilliant. Absolutely fantastic.

Didn't Polygon double down on their review and finally settle on a score of 4.0 for SimCity, by the way?

Personal favorite pick of this week goes to the competitive Quake video. I've never watched a first person post-mortem/analyzation/commentary like that before. As someone who understands what makes pro gaming work in theory but can't grasp any of it in practice, I found that extremely enlightening.

This is "Video Games", we are the biggest entertainment industry in the world, are you really afraid some redneck-creationist-mouth-breathing-politician is gonna make us go away?

Money Talks.

I understand what this post is saying, but it also worries me. There are plenty of things in this world that I wish could go away, but no politician, redneck or otherwise, is bothering to stand up against because it's a pointless battle. Cigarettes. Recreational narcotics. Intentionally fuel-inefficient modes of transport and intentionally unclean power sources. Illegal drugs will never be controlled, nicotine will continue to be lobbied for and advertised and alternative fuels and greener technology will continue to be shut down time and time again. Because money talks.

Until someone with enough power decides that's not how things should work. So I don't think we should be relying on that as a defense for our form of entertainment.

Awesome. I just finished Darksiders (like two hours ago) and, god, that awesome cliffhanger ending made me so sad knowing where the IP is at right now... Glad the team is alright, at least. Hope the franchise finds a good home, as well. I still want to see that ending's promise become reality at some point!
