Game of the Year 2011

  • This is fucking exceptional, fuck. I still can't get over that weekend when I was incredibly engulfed by the world of The Witcher, amazed by the wonderful visuals, saddened by Triss 'disappearance' and you know, a thousand different elements that made me think: This is why I love games.

  • Once again, it isn't really that hard, but it's kind of hard to get into. Granted, I was aided by the occasional visit to a wiki, because the game doesn't really explain things to well, or where to go even. But it's so wonderfully japanese, it almost felt like a nostalgic game in the ways it made you take your steps all too gently. Dark Souls biggest accomplishment? Making you so happy that you succeeded that you almost want to cry.

  • Probably the best sequel in existence. I felt like I didn't really 'get' the first Portal but in the second installment, every single thing has been improved, vastly. And the biggest improvement is easily the writing, it's amazing. You can really tell that it's written by people who know how games work. It's characters are astonishingly impressive, the tempo is flawless, it's puzzles were gratifying and that ending... dude, that ending.

  • It's just fun. The fact that they use Power, You're the Best Around and I Need a Hero in missions makes me so happy, I literally don't know what to say to people about Saints Row: The Third, I just use the new Giant Bomb catchphrase: "Hey, you should really play Saints Row: The Third."

  • It has a narrator, just think about that for a second. Before Bastion it never came to mind that games could have narrators but now, I kind of wish for narrators. Not only that, but Supergiant Games tie the narrator to the story, which makes it even better. It's genius, and there is no other way to describe it. Mix that in with amazing art, story, music and gameplay, and you have the best downloadable game ever released. The best part? That it doesn't even feel like a downloadable game, it's just that good.

  • Drifting is one of the funniest things in a racing game and Dirt 3 does it flawlessly. It's kind of too similar to Dirt 2 but I didn't really care. I got to drift, and I got to do it with precise control in a gorgeous game.

  • They should have named it "Arcade Game", because that's what it feels like, it kind of defines the arcade game. It's bombastic, fun, nice-looking, fun, filled with awful voice over, fun, has a stupid story, fun and you know what? It's fun, especially with a friend sitting next to you. And hey, it's Swedish!

  • Damn you Bioware, you finally made me play an MMO. Goddamn. It's actually the importance of story and expecially voice-over that makes this an MMO I would be willing to play. Oh, and it's Star Wars and Bioware, damn son.

  • I love games that try something really different, so this is almost a given. The importance of faces, the noire feel, the era, the clothes, it all makes me giddy and I love just driving to the next crime scene because of that. I still haven't finished it, and it makes me kind of sad.

  • It's a modern Mortal Kombat that just itches that nostalgic itch in just the right way. I wasn't really that into Mortal Kombat when I was a kid. But just those few memories made me feel real happy that there is a game worthy of Mortal Kombat. That it contains the best story mode in a fighting game is also a huge plus.
