I think more achievement quests, like you suggested, would be awesome.  Some initial thoughts...

  • I remember a bombcast where they went over the most common achievement names across all games, like "Unbelievable."  Could be cool to have a quest where obtaining one of these achievements was involved.  Doesn't make you go out and buy/rent a specific game, but there's a decent chance you have a game with that achievement.
  • Maybe a quest set like obtain at least one achievement in an RPG, sports game, FPS, arcade game, platformer, etc.
  • Have X number of total achievement points

You'll still be writing applications with due dates.  Have fun with that.

After not drinking beer for over ten years, I've just started sampling some good beers.  I've had Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, which is awesome, and Guinness Draught, also good.  I've gotten some good recommendations of Fat Tire, Blue Moon, & Hoegarten.  What are some favs?

I'm in a similar boat...I'm looking for a ps3 slim in large part based on my desire to play God of War III.  I've got the 1&2 collection ready to rent from gamefly as soon as I can locate a console.  I decided to play them through in order, so the story is more meaningful and I can better appreciate the changes in the series.

Thanks for all the feedback...definitely seems the GB community is leaning toward the ps3 decision.

Very interesting on the 250GB hard drives coming out for sale retail.  I haven't been able to find any good info on that until now.  Feels like a good compromise...bump up the xbox HD for relatively cheap and get the ps3.  On my 3rd xbox thanks to 2 RROD.  This one finally seems to work pretty well, no freezes, no disc read errors.

I have 2 blu-ray players BTW, and agree that blu-ray is quite good.

Thanks again.

I've had an xbox 360 since launch, and I was completely content with skipping this generation of the Sony console when Final Fantasy XIII was announced for the 360.  I think to myself, aah, I'm not missing too much and there are more games on 360 that I want to play than I can reasonably get to (still haven't played Batman:AA, Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2).  I am absolutely an achievement whore, and I've come to terms with that.  I had decided to get one of the 360 special edition bundles to get the large hard drive to support game installs, the new game room coming out, all the DLC that is coming out these days.  All that to say...

I saw God of War III footage and my reality was shattered.  That game looks unlike anything I've ever seen.  Now I'm looking at the potential of playing through all 3 God of War games, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, and Gran Turismo 5.

Any thoughts out there?  Will I forget about the ps3 in a month when some of the God of War hype dies down & I'm still having fun playing Mass Effect 2, Borderlands, and Dragon Age on the 360?  Getting both is a possibility, but my frugality chip kicks in at that point.
