20 games that define me as a gamer

Just a list of the games that i love. You can very easily tell my "era" of gaming.

List items

  • What can i say? I know it's so obvious. But the plot, the characters, the depth of the world, and Nobuo Uematsu's 4-disc soundtrack, which i used to play every morning before getting ready for school.

  • Mainly, it's about the atmosphere with this one. And Eric Brosius' brilliant soundtrack.

  • One of my favourite games as a child. And again, a pumpin' electronic soundtrack. Very 90s and retro.

  • I was truly too young to enjoy the 1st when i was a kid. My brother loved it, but it scared me too much. And then i got out of gaming for a while. About 4 years after this game came out i got into it, and man, was i missing something genuine, here. Brilliant in every way. Unforgettable world, immersive gameplay, and some of the best gunfights in any game ever.

  • While Jake & Daxter was unique, original and had brilliant comedic moments and voice acting, i still went in hoping to play a brilliant game. And J&D got repetitive. Jak II advanced the gameplay to a whole new realm, and while Jak III is essentially the same, helped finish off a great plot-line.

  • One of the most underrated RPGs, in my opinion. Voice-acting for almost all the dialogue was quite unique for PSX, as well. Amazing soundtrack, endless gameplay (seriously, i felt like this game went on forever, which is great when you love the game).

  • Another criminally underrated game, in my opinion. A brilliant hack'n'slash where you play as a viking given another chance to redeem himself. Lots of Norse lore, difficult as hell, tons of weapons, great scenery/settings, and there really aren't enough Viking games out there.

  • A childhood favourite, cannot even begin to imagine how many times i played this game. Violence galore and i LOVED IT!

  • The thing about Doom, not only is it a classic, but if you really take the time to admire the levels, you get a sense of how huge the universe they've created is.

  • Another brilliant FPS. What i loved most about this was how HUGE the world seemed. You'd see things on the very edge of the horizon, and you felt like you could wander through the desert and end up there...sometimes, you could.

  • Not often considered the best in the series, but to me, it is. Functioning less on cheap jump scares and more on the player freaking them-self out. You'll hear a noise, or catch a glimpse of something, but they'll never explain it, so you end up freaking yourself out most of the game.

  • 3d Beat'em Up with a bajillion moves, hard as HELL, hilarious dialogue. It's everything you want in a mindless game.

  • Speaking of brilliantly fun mindless games. This is the king of the hill. Tons of characters. and i mean TONS. lots of weapons, a cool "climb the tower" minigame. And a 4-player board game with mini games. Somewhere between Mario Party and Monopoly. It can take hours to play. Endless, mindless fun.

  • Oh come on. Especially the "Week In Paradise" fan mod. Kill everyone, do anything however you wish. and seriously, over 100 weapons. So fun, so sick, so stupid. And unfortunately, so very very buggy.

  • One of the first games to ever make me slow down and realize running in "guns blazing" isn't always going to win you the game. Great plot, tons of characters.

  • Best in the series, with a sick back-story. Lots of hours wasted on this game.

  • One of my favourite FPSs as a child. Weird as fuck.

  • Still love this game. Never the same twice.

  • Sure it's a repetitive shoot 'em up. But it looks great, is stylish as hell, and the music is done by Tsuneo Imahori, who plays guitar for Yoko Kanno, who composed all the music for Cowboy Bebop).

  • Wish i could play this fun, funny point and click adventure game again. It was brilliant.
