Best Ratchet and Clank Game

All of the R&C games have been awesome. Since 2002, Insomniac have been churning out these games like there's no tomorrow, but the thing is, not one entry was a dissapointment. Here is my ranking of the games:

1. Ratchet & Clank - Up Your Arsenal :- This game took everything that was good about the first two games and added more awesomeness to the mix. The graphics were some of the best available when it came out, and the HD remastering on the PS3 looks beautiful too. There is also a lot of stuff brought back from the titles, to add an element of nostalgia to the game. Planets like Veldin, Aridia and Kerwan make a comeback, as well as weapons such as the Miniturret Glove and the Bouncer. This game is about as perfect as a game can get.

2. Ratchet and Clank :- This was my favourite game in the series for a number of years until I got them on the PS3 and was reminded of how awesome UYA was. This game was, quite simply, iconic. Iconic soundtrack (who can forget the Kerwan theme), iconic characters (besides from Ratchet and Clank, like Helga and Qwark), and the start to an iconic series. Ratchet was a dick in this game, though.

3. Ratchet and Clank Future - A Crack in Time :- TBC

Ratchet and Clank 3 is probably the best, but you know Ratchet and Clank: Q Force is fantastic.

A Crack In Time is the most well rounded, UYA is the funniest. I would have said UYA in a heartbeat before ACIT came out.

Up Your Arsenal is the best R&C game. My second favorite is Crack in Time. I wasn't a huge fan of the first two games.

ACIT was awesome. Felt like a true PS3 R&C title. The one before that was good but it didn't feel like a true next gen title.

@mordukai: I totally agree, it felt safe. I didn't find it all that funny either and it was completely devoid of any challenge until the very last mission.

I would probably place it below Deadlocked/Gladiator if I was going to order them.

@SerHulse: Not complaining, but just out of curiosity what did you not like about Quest for booty? I thought It did a pretty good job of having some cool new exploration and ideas along with possibly some of the most intense battles the series has seen. I really, really enjoyed it for what it was.

I really enjoyed the time puzzles. They always felt challenging but not too much out of reach. The sheer chaos of trying to keep track of all the different Clanks me laugh so much.

@GunstarRed: I didn't say I didn't like it just that out of all of them it was my least favourite.

@GunstarRed: I just didn't enjoy myself, I found the humour to be lacking and more of the same and if I had to guess, maybe I was burnt out on Ratchet games after Future.

UYA was the first time everything in the game made sense. The humour was bang on (for much younger me) the characters were well rounded, the story was pretty good... but more importantly strafing felt fantastic, the shooting was tight and the platforming sections were fun. A Crack in Time was probably better objectively, but I'm not gonna lie: R&C is my favorite game series of all time and nostalgia plays a huge role in this choice.

I just don't understand the love for Up Your Arsenal. I found it to be a major downgrade in every conceivable way. The single player was so generic and unbelievably scripted. Also, by that time, I think the novelty of the game in general may have been fading. Take for instance that massive desert area in Going Commando. If you ask me, it was awesome. UYA replaces it with a long series of sewage tunnels. It was incredibly monotonous and claustrophobic feeling. The 2D Qwark missions were disappointing as well. The final boss was good in UYA, though. I'll give it that. I think Going Commando is definitely the best, but man did it have a terrible final boss. The original game was also great, though needing to get that many bolts to unlock the RYNO was retarded, and good luck being the final boss without it.

R&C is my favorite PS2 series; so far the only game I've bought for my PS3 is the R&C HD collection (though I plan on buying ToD and CiT, they're just fucking hard to find unless I order them on amazon which it looks like I'm going to have to do). Anyway, my ordering is:

Deadlocked
Up Your Arsenal
Going Commando
Quest for Booty
Ratchet & Clank

I own All 4 One because of PS+ but haven't played it yet; my brother had Size Matters but I only played about an hour of it. Never played Secret Agent Clank. From what I hear Full Frontal Assault isn't actually a Ratchet game so I haven't really considered touching it at all.

But yeah, Deadlocked is my favorite by far. The coop is awesome, the shooting and controls are the tightest, I really liked the storyline and the humor, it had the most replayability for me as far as going through and earning those skins and stuff, the weapons were the most interesting and fun to use, leveling them all the way to 100 didn't feel like a chore in the slightest, and I really liked the level/mission/map design as well. I really cannot wait for the coming HD rerelease of Deadlocked. Day 1.

Full frontal assault/ Q Force is most definitely a Ratchet game, just a different type of Ratchet game. It feels more Ratchet-y than All 4 One.

I'm glad to see some people really liked Deadlocked/Gladiator (stupid name changes!) I loved it too, not just for the cool multiplayer, but because it had a spider tank... A SPIDER TANK!

Well, to be fair, All 4 One seems about 0% like a Ratchet game.

Quest for Booty was much more like the original Ratchet and Clank as there was a much bigger focus on platforming, which was why its pretty awesome. That said I really do like Gladiator, very addicting.

  • UYA
  • Going Commando (Locked and Loaded for you Europeans)
  • Deadlocked
  • Original

...and I haven't beaten any of the others. Except the PSP game, which was OK but it was nowhere near "great". It was pretty hard to control.
