H. P. Lovecraft is my favorite author, and he has been since I was in 10th grade and I read "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward".  I immediately began to devour all of his works of poetry, novellas, and short stories.  I loved the mythology he had crafted from his own mind, and that of others.  Over the years, I have enjoyed being able to read Lovecraft whenever I want, get random merch, etc, etc....heck, even two decent games (OK, one if you only count  "Dark Corners of the Earth", but I kind of liked the Sherlock Holmes one a tad).  What is one thing that us Lovecraft fans do not have?  Good movies.  
 
The closest thing we have to good cinema is the work of Del Toro, which really only has hints of Lovecraftian influence.  We did have "In the Mouth of Madness" which was essentially a love letter to Lovecraft, but it was too hokey and well...Wes Craven (sorry Wes, you're stuff has gotten progressively worse since the mid 80s).  There are some “cult classics” like Re-animator, the title very loosely based on Herbert West: Re-animator.   There titles such as Dagon, which are supposed to be from people who “love Lovecraft lore” but they are essentially crap (sorry if you like these movies).  

The Shadow over Innsmouth, At the Mountains of Madness, The Call of Cthulhu, heck…even a lot of the others.   I will go as far as to even say that some of Lumley’s Titus Crow series would be good television or movie material (HBO please, don’t let “SyFy” put their horrible hands on it).  

Just came across my mind, remembering that for years Del Toro has wanted to make “At the Mountains of Madness” into a movie, but I don’t know if he will ever get to it.   Hopefully he will.  

Games?   I finished Alan Wake, still slowly plodding through Red Dead Redemption, still racing in Modnation, and I am impatiently waiting for Transformers.   Maybe I will reinstall Sherlock Holmes on my laptop and play through it on my business trip….

I can't see any movie capturing what is meant to be Cthulhu

Well, to be honest, there is actually not much Cthulhu in Lovecraft outside of the namesake.  You can do a whole lot of Lovecraft without showing Cthulhu, hell you could do Call of Cthulhu without having a full body show of Cthulhu.  
 
Lovecraftian horror can easily be done.  No one can do it without screwing it up.  Hell, I would love The Shadow Over Innsmouth. 

" @sammo21:  I feel the same way, but if you're hoping for a film adaptation Hollywood with big name actors, it's really not going to happen. Why, you ask? It's because there are no particularly happy endings, or romantic interests, or enough potential War on Terror references (I'm sure they could shoehorn them in by repeating Abdul "the Mad Arab" Alhazred over and over again) that focus groups will moan about. That said, I'm not sure who would even direct it, let alone write the screen adaptation. I agree with you on Del Toro. Maybe Tim Burton could pull it off? 
 
Anyway, there is some stuff out there, like radio plays. You can listen to this one of The Shadow Over Innsmouth, which stars Donald Sutherland (Jack Bauer's dad). I arranged it into a youtube playlist a while back, and you just reminded me of it. If you're still craving Lovecraft, did you see the commemorative edition to celebrate the 70th anniversary? Yeah!  My fiance got me that Lovecraft edition about...2 weeks ago?  Also, on a side note, when we get married in November we are stopping by Providence, RI to check out some Lovecraft stuff while we are there.  There is supposed to be a Lovecraft museum around there somewhere, but I am not sure.  
 
Also, I have those radio plays...I think they are done by some theater company out of Atlanta, GA?  I also have At the Mountains of Madness by them as well.  My favorite audio books of Lovecraft are the ones read by Wayne June.  His voice is just AMAZING for it.  iTunes used to have them but they took them down for no reason I can find.  
 
Tim Burton could MAYBE pull it off, but Del Toro has most of my confidence.  Maybe David Lynch or Christopher Nolan could pull it off as well.  
 
Anyways, I ordered this off TeeFury the other day.  Can't wait to get it!
