The Megaman Series, Where Should it go from here?

Megaman has been around for a long time since 1987. It has spawn out many games and different series that are connected to each series one way or another. In each series the Main Hero is Megaman or some variation to Megaman. There's:

  1. The Original Megaman of the Original Series
  2. Mega Man X or simply X, Doctor Light's last and greastest creation.
  3. Mega Man Zero or Zero, Doctor Wily's last and greatest creation (Even though Zero's body a copy and Omega is in his original body)
  4. In ZX a bunch of individuals are called Mega Men when the combine with biometal. Although the player controls Vent, Aile, Grey, and Ashe. The Player controls X, ZX, HX, LX, FX, PX, OX, A and a copy of H, L, F, P.
  5. A mega man in the distance future.
  6. A Netnavi called Megaman.EXE
  7. Some alien and a boy combining to become Mega Man.

Different Mega Men.

Two of the series have an absoulte end. The Zero series ending with Dr. Weil and Zero being killed in the explosion of Ragnarok, and the Battle Network series with Lan and Megaman finally defeating Dr. Wily.

The classic series may not have a definite end so let's see what happens.

The other series are kinda left in the air for an ending. The last X game in the main games was X 8, whuch ended Axl being injurned and X and Zero talking about Mavericks. Axl gains some kind of transformation afterwards known as White Axl. It could be for gameplay but it is said to be gain from a fragment from Lumine's attack. So where is going to go? They can make a sequel and prequel to the Zero series. The game being about the Elf Wars or maybe explaining Axl's fate.

ZX Advent ending leaving a big cliffhanger with Master Thomas saying the world must be reset. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=588vwybTb2s as seen in this video. Can there be a new biometal in tribute to Axl or Sigma or something? Model A is really Model Albert, named after the Main Antagonist, Master Albert.

Legends I have no idea.

Star Force's problems were resolved in the 3rd game but its not a definite end so is there going to be a sequel. or a reboot to make it better.

Mothball him. He's getting long in the tooth and I'd really like Capcom to put their efforts into some new IP. For fear of market saturation and degrading quality of derivative sequels, put the Blue Bomber in the big, scary warehouse until what's old is new again.

That's assuming that Capcom is still interested in the series. I don't even think he was in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (although I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong).

@Video_Game_King: He got replaced with Zero. In the Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 one of his downloadable costumes was X. Literally it was X using Zero's moveset.

Capcom needs to pull its head out of its ass and release Megaman legends 3 and stop blaming the community.

A gritty Mature rated open world sandbox Megaman.  You play as Michael "Mega" Mann,  A FBI Agent thirsty for revenge for the murder of his fiance Rebbecca Roll that was orchestrated by a cabal of 8 criminal masterminds and their mysterious leader Dr. Wily.

Man, what did Mega Man do to Capcom that made them hate him so much...in RECENT memory? (That's to keep people from mentioning Mega Man 64.)

@Video_Game_King: The Star Force series being crap might have something to do with it. Or maybe making Mega Man 9 & 10 like they were back in the day. Idk I just want some of these games to be made so they can say the end to series. I think 9 and 10 were good.

Keiji Inafune is no longer with Capsule Computers. That's Mr. Mega Man, friends.

I think Capcom will keep Mega under wraps for a lengthy period of time.

When they do resurrect the bucket of bolts, they should have a solid story arc that will span a set number of games, and see if the first game pans out. If it does, we get the sequels and see more of the story. If not, then great - MvC V will have Megaman.EXE. I think they need to create a specific story arc and not try to create sequel after sequel.

Eh, I'd like to see a sequel to XZ Advent I guess, the way it was seeded at the end of that game I could see a new protagonist appearing and picking up Model Z. In either case I'd like to see the continuity that has Aile and Grey, because they were the least sucky protagonists.

That whole thing is beside the point however. Mega Man started as a bit of a Astro Boy ripoff and with Battle Network, Starforce and ZX came the inspirations from the transforming hero genre, its all mainly stuff that appeals to kids and if you aren't a Nintendo product or is called Sonic the Hedgehog it doesn't seem to be worth the risk of investing into something like that today. Compared to the icons Mario and Sonic the Mega Man games had either a far more niche appeal, with the Zero and ZX games that were notoriously hard, or a much broader kid focused one with Battle Network and Starforce (each having an animated series).

The character just doesn't have a clear identity, with so many different iterations of him who are all different people. I'd imagine that in Japan the tropes the series pulls from are even more familiar and, sometimes, tired.

I'd love for the series to make a proper jump into the third dimension in a game that isn't a Legends follow up (and thus has to abide by the rules that, that series set). I've always appreciated the way the series handled the relationship between robots and humans. In ZX, the latest spinoff, robots are mortal and humans have robot parts, they live in peace with one another and you can hardly tell who's a machine and who is a human. I'd like to see something like that but aimed for a slightly older audience, maybe based in a X-like universe just without all that history.

A reimagined reboot of X in 3D, yeah that sounds good. Ah, and all the bosses need to have their names end with "man".

...it won't happen.

They should go the Hard Corps: Uprising route and introduce more special maneuvers. Throughout the original series, X and Zero they've given us chargeable shots, sliding, wall-sliding, dashing, slashing and double jumps. Now give me more. Air dashing, parries et cetera. Then, give me appropriately powerful enemies and complex level layouts, and package it all with gorgeous, hand-drawn HD graphics and the kickass music the series is known for.

@Icemael: A bunch of the games have had air dashing as an upgrade and the Zero games had a shield with which you could bounce back bullets if you timed the block correctly.

Megaman ZX Advent had a few really cool ideas with the form changes, but the level design was lame and didn't take advantage of them half of the time. By that token the Zero games were much better/harder.

Personally, I don't think I want "another one of those just really good and pretty" (I'd still buy it if they made it though cause holy f'n shit would that be sweet), I want to see the series leave its roots for once, I want to see the concepts work in more than 2 dimensions, I want something "new". A Mario Galaxy for Mega Man, in a sort of way. As thing are right now I would at most expect another retro remake or sequel to the "Classic" series. I'd say that these were dark times for the blue bomber, but really Mega Man hasn't been relevant in forever. Makes me a bit sad.

I want them to make a 3rd person arcadey shooter with Megamans trademark look, similar to legends but with the obvious better controls and whatnot.

Only thing I want is Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X 2 and 3. Seriously, the first one was a really good remake of the original X game; the other two SNES classics need the same treatment. I've really lost interest in the later X/Zero/whatever games, which have been of very uneven quality, and the story has gone from being simple-but-unoffensive to downright stupid. I suppose I wouldn't mind a second Mega Man X: Command Mission, either, but they'd really need to do more with it. As JRPGs go, it was pretty slim on content and complexity; also, see aforementioned "downright stupid" comment in regards to story.

I'm pretty sure Mega Man: Powered Up has a level editor, though it requires you to collect bits during gameplay to get the most out of it -- and it does has some odd limitations. I guess it's sort of serviceable. Seems like the editor that was going to be in Mega Man Universe would have been more fully-featured, and would have allowed for easier sharing of user-created levels. Shame it got cancelled.

This a million times. Why on earth would they ever can that?

I am not saying it would sell a ton of units (actually at this point it's been so long since a MML game I have NO IDEA how it would sell) but there is clearly an audience for it.

As for the rest of the series I really don't care. I liked the 8 bit games and the X series for sure and the one Battle Network game I played is among my favorites, but I am not dying for a new one considering I haven't even played like half of the ones already released.

@EchoEcho: I played and partly enjoyed Mega Man X: Command Mission and I think that it had potential. What I really wanted was for them to take the concept with timing button presses further. Make it like Paper Mario where every time you attack and every time you defended you had to "time that button press!".

Heck, just rip off Paper Mario to the bone with classic enemies and bosses and cute 2D graphics. Put it on the 3DS! Capitalize upon my nostalgia! I want you to!

Give it to Platinum.

I'd love to see their version of Megaman. Hopefully they wouldn't make it as hardcore as Vanquish.

To be fair...

Everything they were showing about Megaman Legends 3 didn't look interesting. With a weird protagonist and a 3DS only launch.

I'm not sure what I'd like to see. I fear nothing good can come from MM going into the third dimension, but I don't want the 2D games to be worn out. Whatever it is, it should be a new X game.

I think if handled correctly, any game can make the switch from 2D to 3D. I really enjoyed the Metroid Prime series after all of the Metroidvania style games. With Megaman ZX essentially being slightly Metroidvanian in style, I think Megaman could make the switch, again if handled correctly.

@Icemael: I can't tell if you're being belligerent about this or not. "If they won't make the games the way I want then I wish for it to die"? I can't relate, I would just not care instead.

Either way you may be right, if they can't do anything interesting with the series then what's the point of keeping it going? I can always remember the good times I guess.
