Games with Sweet-ass Shotguns

This list is mostly for my own use, as I have a great fondness for shotguns as weapons in video games. So whenever I find a dope-ass shotgun I do a lot of business with, I plan to list it here.

Also, I've decided to make this list way after I've played a bunch of games with shotguns... so I'm way behind. Expect glaring omissions regularly.

List items

  • Home to the greatest video game shotgun ever programmed.

  • Home to the greatest double barrel shotgun ever programmed.

  • Bioshock 2 features a double barrel shotgun you can modify to hell and back whether you make it a sawed off, add a revolver mechanism for more shots, or all of the above. Even electrified shells.

  • Resident Evil 4 had a variety of shotguns for all kinds of tastes. Pump action, riot gun, or striker variants made sure you kept crowds under control.

  • Shotguns in your hands! Shotguns on your heels! When two shotguns just won't do, Bayonetta has your back.

  • One of the best weapons in the game, the shotgun, is hard to find and often used by shopkeepers who know how to wield it with lethal efficiency.

  • The shotgun here has a sweet design and a nice upgrade that lets it fire twice with one pull of the trigger.

  • Syndicate features a belt fed shotgun that allows lots of buckshot in a very short amount of time.

  • Sneaking an old lever action shotgun into a modern military shooter made for a pretty fun weapon. It's just a shame the Winchester Model 1887 will probably be remembered only as a blight on the multiplayer mode.

  • The Riot Gun was one of the only guns worth using as you can vaporize zombies with one shot and take on everything else with decent reload and fire rate.

  • While not a game that focuses on gunplay, Sleeping Dogs is home to a pretty solid pump-action and semi-auto shotgun that is great at cleaning up targets at range. Combined with some slo-mo after leaping over cover, it makes shotguns lots of fun in the rare instances you get your hands on them.

  • This game has a lever action shotgun that's actually not a reference to Terminator 2, so it's already pretty good. But it also means business and is very effective on individual targets or crowds of crazy people and robots.

  • This game features a trench shotgun that you can upgrade in a number of ways. Besides blowing open wooden barricades, it can also stop a murderous madman with one good pull of the trigger up close.

  • Resident Evil 2 features an upgrade for Leon's shotgun that turns it into a zombie torso destroying machine. You won't even have to aim as one shell can blow apart a walking dead with ease.

  • Metal Gear Solid 3 introduces the M37. Which does so much business that it launches enemies back. It might be slow to fire, but each shot really does some work. It was even meaner in the multiplayer.
