The PS2, system I never knew.

Well, I don't know why I'm writing this, seeing as how no one will be reading it except maybe one British lad... But, I felt it necessary to write about stuff.

So I have FINALLY been playing my PS2. I bought it a while back for like $50 at Gamestop. A good deal, to be sure. I literally played it for a couple hours and that was that. However, recently I have developed a want to play the games. So I unhooked it from my HDTV (it looks BAD on it) and got an older little TV (now it looks just fine) to hook it up on. I have been addicted to Dark Cloud. Did you people know that the PS2 had lots of great games on it?

For someone who loves games, I sure did my best to avoid all the good ones as a young'n. I pretty much only played Dynasty Warriors and the ESPN NBA 2K series. What was I doing back then!?

Ratchet and Clank
Dark Cloud
Jak and Daxter

Why did I just skip over these?!

Oh well, there's not a whole ton of games coming out soon (with the exception of Dawn of War 2 and Empire at War) that I want to play anyway. So now I have plenty of time to hunker down with some of the "last-gen" titles.

Cheers, y'all!

I still love my PS2, so many good games that cover all the bases. My advise go get a copy of the God of War games and Shadow of the Colossus.

You know, I'm a game collector so I keep all of my old systems and games. I figure, even if I don't finish or play every single game while the console is in it's prime, I can always go back and play every game when I'm an old man.

Nothing wrong with ESPN 2K though. Gotta say those games were the shit.

Never had a PS2. Had a Gamecube (which I hated) and an Xbox (which I didn't play too often with).

Looks like I missed out.

The PS2 easily has one of the greatest game libraries of any console. There are all kinds of great games, man. I highly recommend the Grand Theft Auto games, God of War, The Warriors, Resident Evil 4, Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando (most people think Up Your Arsenal is the better game, but I totally disagree), the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games (preferrably THPS3 and Tony Hawk's Underground), Burnout 3: Takedown, Shadow of the Colossus, Psychonauts, Katamari Damacy, and Metal Gear Solid 2. That's enough to get you started anyway.

Yeah, I actually own Shadow Of The Colossus too. It was one of the first games I bought.

Gorgeous game, I'd love to see it remade on some better hardware.

Don't forget to pick up a copy of Manhunt if you can find it on teh internets or in a used games store.

Yeah, manhunt gives me the heebie jeebies.. It is worth a buy though.

Dude, got totally hooked on the NBA 2K series up until 2K8. Had to give that shit up.

The Kingdom Hearts games are very fun.  Also you could check out Sly Cooper games or the Devil May Cry games.  Oh, and don't forget about Resident Evil 4.

Get ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. I've never heard of anyone not liking either of those games.

Nice to see somebody getting acquainted with an old piece of hardware. All the recommendations above are definitely worth checking out. As has already been said, the PS2 has arguably the best back catalogue of any console. I still play mine on a regular basis, even more since my 360 died last week. Have fun with it, dude.

All the games already listed are great, and I would add the Persona series to the list. There is a lot of bang for buck with those games and they are all of great quality.

Ah! Ico, that's one I forgot to put on the list.

Oh my, you have apparently no clue why the ps2 was great.  Look at the jrpg library.  If it weren't for that, I'd say it was about on par with the xbox.
lots of ps2 top ten lists look lame, mainly because lots like to pretend that these games don't exist.

And if you haven't, get Final Fantasy 10.  I'd say it's the best game on the console.

The only JRPG I owned for my PS2 was Final Fantasy X and I still thought that the system had much more to offer than just generic JRPG titles.

^ well then you never really experienced the console.
it's almost like a 360 without playing the fpses and rpgs, just no. yea, there's still a good amount of action games and whatever, but you're just not experiencing it fully.

Make sure you play Shadow of the Colossus.

Star Ocean
SotC(must play)
MGS 2 and 3
Persona series
Ico
God of War/DMC/God Hand

So just because I did not play any JRPG games I did not fully experience the console?  I think not.  I had plenty of great fun with the first two Socom games online, Metal Gear Solid games, Grand Theft Auto, Ratchet and Clank, Jax and Daxter, and many other games.

The system also has a shit ton of awesome platformers, something that is seriously lacking on this new generation.
