Atomicrops is a great mashup of bullet-hell shooter, rogue-lite character progression and farm management sim. It's not for everyone, but will provide lots of entertainment if it clicks for you.

Legend of Bumbo has been really fun as a Sunday morning game to poke at while drinking a coffee. It's a match-4 puzzle game in the Binding of Issac universe with some interesting powers you can apply to build out your character. Another rogue-lite experience with an aesthetic that won't appeal to everyone, but worth taking a look imo

@beard_of_zeus:

Strong agree that Like a Dragon felt like a Earthbound follow up with adult characters. I just got around to it earlier this year and really interested to see how they continue the story

I also really like the storytelling and message of Chicory, but did not actually finish it. Hope the game builds a solid fanbase and I want to see more from this dev team. Related, I want to shout out Wandersong which is the first game from these devs. It is still a little thin on gameplay mechanics, but the characters, world and overall charm had me engaged the whole way through. The dedicated dance button is great

Been having a great time playing through the campaign mode in Gloomhaven the past few months, and wanted to call this game out for anyone who's been bitten by the deck-buikding bug. This game has so much varied and deeply strategic content to play through. Highly recommended, with a few caveats.

So, this is a digital adaptation of a boardgame. I've played the physical tabletop game a couple times with friends, but the amount of setup and bookkeeping made it a non-starter for me. The digital version takes care of those issues. Just jumping into an online game with a couple friends and getting to the interesting choices immediately is so much more satisfying.

The gameplay does take some time to wrap your head around (in my experience at least) but if you have experience with some deck builders as well as the language around effects and abilities of the typical fantasy dungeon-crawling party, you should be able to catch on pretty quick, and then you're just digging into the juicy strategic and tactical decisions of the game.

This really is a great, but niche, experience of one of the best epic tabletop games, condensed down to it's most concise form. My biggest hang up is that the game visuals aren't going to win any awards, the campaign narrative is pretty straightforward, and the learning curve is pretty steep initially. But even with those in mind, Gloomhaven definitely ranks in the top games of the year for me.

I just tried booting this game up and was excited to check it out, but immediately the in game textures and character model start flickering. My pc is more then capable of running this and all drivers are up to date. Tried fiddling with some settings, but no noticeable improvement. Hope they get this patched soon.

I've been pretty disappointed with gamepass on pc, as far as the day one releases go. So many games launching broken, but I guess that is just the nature of most new releases these days.

Anyone else having a better experience with this?

Having a lot of the same issues with gamepass version on pc. Hard crashes repeatedly. There are multiple forums of suggested fixes, but I got sick of trying them with no result. I hope they get a proper patch out, but might just move on.

Necro!

But yeah, this game broke the mold in so many weird ways, and not all for the best. The tactical placement of your character seemed like it should have been more important then it was. The lack of combat XP, and leveling up through finding little sparkles in the environments was also quite a choice.. My teenage brain found it intriguing at the time, but I think it would be really tough to go back to now.

Silksong? That would be cool.

And/or No More Heroes 3.

My dark horse candidate is a remake (with various improvements) of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Just finished Ori and the Will of the Wisps on switch, and I feel like it really got brushed aside earlier this year. I know the pc version had performance issues at launch, which seemed to leave a bad taste for a lot of people initially, but now that it's been cleaned up, it really does improve on the original in pretty much every way.
