Cloudy Skies

Yeah I know, cheezy blog title, but there have been cheezier ones so ya know it works.  Anyway down to business.  I'm going to have to take a little brake from gaming to focus on school.  Seems like an appropriate time considering all the games I've gotten have either been dissapointing or just piss me off with their constant crashing (*cough cough* clear sky).  And you know Spore was pretty dissapointing for me.  Not a bad game but just not what I wanted from it.  So to the point, less blog posting for a little bit.

So all I've been doing is attempting to play Clear Sky, and I bought some games from gog.com, and I have to say I had a great experiencing purchasing the games I got.  I purchased Freesapce 2 and got a code for a free game which was Fallout 2 for me.  It's cool going back in the past.  Games were a lot different back then, still not super in to them yet but I've enjoyed them so far.  Have done much of Freespace yet though so don't have a whole lot of experience with that.  Also I don't think I've touched my xbox.  My brother has though and he's been playing a lot of Bad Company.  I need to start playing that some.  Also tried out Combat Arms, a free online shooter.  It's ok, nothing special but good ol' shootin fun, very low system requirements so anyone can run it pretty much, so I've been playing with some of my non PC friends.  So yeah that is about it.  Sorry to be so brief.  I would like to put more time into this but at the moment I'm in a rush.  Just wanted you guys to know that when I don't blog for a few weeks that it was planned.  I'm not dead, hopefully not.

I'm up to about 18 hours of time spent in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky lost.  So there is a little warning.  Love the game, but I'm going to have to stop, I'll just wait for some new patches.  I'll tell you when it's fixed.

Current Games I'm pretty hyped about:
Probably Fallout 3 the most.  Looks to be pretty awesome.  Can't wait to try that.   Also I might just have to get back into WoW with the release of the Lich King.

One more thing.  I plan to start up my gamefly subscription so I can try out all those games I've missed and give my impressions (force unleashed, too human, ect.).  So hopefully I'll be able to do that soon.

Well that's all for now.  I will talk with you guys later.

P.S. - I'll still sign in occasionally to check others' blogs and maybe hit the boards a bit.  Haven't been on the forums for about a month, I figure I should be more involved.  Oh and real quick I'm liking the updated Giant Bomb.  Welp, taht's all.

STALKER continuously crashing again

So now after having to restart after a 6 hour save I got back to my point and continued past that point about 4 hours.  Now my game is continuously crashing again so I can't really do anything about it.  If I complete a mission it's an automatic crash, pretty much anything crashes it.  Ahh I hate this because I really love playing Stalker, but I don't know if I want to play it for awhile now.  It's very frustrating.

So about the game now.  It's very fun, they've made a bunch of visual improvements that make the game look great.  The atmosphere is still all there, it's great.  Faction wars seems cool.  I'm a Dutier, always play on the Duty faction when doing my first play through.  I eliminated the Freedom base, and captured all of the little outposts in the garbage and dark valley areas.  The updated PDA is nice.  Tracking missions is much easier and far more organized.  You can see the movement of allied and enemy squads and the destination they plan to attack.  Lots of cool updates.

If you've played you also know that the bandits now actually stop you and take all your stuff.  Most of the time you're completely outnumbered and there is no way out.  I don't know how I feel about the bandits.  It makes me not really want to do any side missions since I know my stuff will get stolen.

And then there are the crashes.  All I have to say is:
 Urghahahhhaghh!

Got Clear Sky

I've played about 6 hours of Clear Sky now and it just crashed.  It continues to crash when I try to get back to playing.  I was not having any problems til now.  Oh well I'll figure it out later.  So far it's a pretty awesome game.  Faction wars seems cool.  I like the new reloading animation and the feel of the weapons.  It's also cool seeing an earlier version of the stalker world.  So I'm kinda pissed off about it crashing but I've enjoyed it.  I don't want to give my full impressions until I've completed the game so I'm just going to leave it at that for now.  Hopefully I'll have more detailed impressions by Saturday.  Til then, farewell.

Time for Spore Impressions, Not So Good

Ok so Spore... *sigh*.  A disappointment, I've found the game to be.  So the only thing really here is the editor tools, online features, and the space stage.  Which don't get me wrong, that's still a lot of good stuff, but ya know all the other stages are kind of so so.  I guess I'll do a little run through.  Btw I've made a pretty thorough analysis of the first four stages because of their shortness in length.  I've played them a variety of ways.

Cell Stage:

So the cell stage, this is like flow with an editor.  You can be a herbivore, carnivore, or eventually an omnivore.  This affects what you go into the creature stage as, but appearance is not affected at all by any stage.  You can be a completely new creature whenever you mate in the cell and creature stages, so that's pretty much it for the cell stage.  It took me about 10mins to beat each time.

Creature Stage:

so this is like the scocialize with other creatures or kill them.  You can be a prediator, social, or adaptable.  I first played a predator style and have to say it's probably harder than social, but there isn't much of a game here.  You get an appreciation for your creature because your interacting with him but pretty much you go around fighting or socializing with other creatures.  You have a variety of attacks to use based on what your creature is.  The combat is similar to that of an rpg where you wait for skills to charge befor reusing them and basically you just spam keys, and social you sing, dance, pose, or charm.  You find parts for your creature throughout the world and by interacting with creatures.  You will also sometimes get hungry, so you just kind of find food and eat.  I wasn't too impressed with this stage either.

Tribal Stage:

:So you fight other tribes or make them your allies by performing for them in a really dumb mini game.  This stage and Civilization stage feel so thrown in.  Probably my two least favortie stages.  You just kind of throw units at each other if you're agressive and if social you play music in a dumb mini game.

Civ Stage:

Throw units at the enemy's cities.  Gather resources.

Space Stage:

So this is the game.  Spore is actually sim galaxy.  Why couldn't the work that went into this also have gone into the other stages.  This stage is just so complex.  Although I do not feel that I have fully experienced it yet.  Expect more impressions later.  This stage has so much though.  Altough some missions become repetitive this stage is very interesting and deep.  There are so many things to do in it from terraforming, to conquering and colonizing other planets, to finding treasure, to establishing trade routes, making allies and enemies.  Just soo much.  This is the game.

Overvall Impressions:

So overall the game is dissapointing to me, as you could probably tell from my comments on some of the stages.  I'm really enjoying the space stage though.  Even though multiple times I've lost my progress.  I'm talking about hours lost, and it's still been fun.  Who knows it could get repetitive though.  I'll have to play with it some more.  Now the real achievement of this game is the simple complexity of the creature creater and the online interactions in the game.  It's like playing a single player MMO.  You always find unique creatures and structures coming from other people and sometimes even your own things.  I once saw an epic version of one of my creatures stomping around a city, and that was fun to see.  So the game is really cool.  It just could have been so much more.  Well anyway I'm going to move on to some other stuff.  If I'd have to sum up my opinion of the game in a number it would be about a 7.8.  Still a great game, not what I, or we, were hoping for.

Other Stuff

So I'm sure many of you have heard of Dr.Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.  Well I'm kind of late to the party but just this weekend I saw all 3 acts and wow!  What an amazing musical!  I'm normally not the one to enjoy musicals but I really enjoyed this.  It's a great story with plenty of laughs, great songs, and a heart breaking ending.  Just wow!  Go check it out.  I really wasn't expecting as much as I got, but man it was so amazing.

Well enough of that.  Stalker: Clear Sky today.  I plan on maybe buying it tomorrow even if I can't play it.  So maybe, hopefully my impressions will be up by next Saturday.  Also Rock Band 2. tomorrow.  I'll probably be having another party to celebrate the release of it, and Rock Band parties are always fun.

Well that's all I've got right now.  Make sure too comment, I want to hear your thoughts on my thoughts, tell me if you dissagree or agree, or just I don't know tell me something, I don't even really care if it's relevant.  Anyway check back Saturday for more.  Scorched out.

Jeff Leaving 1up

Well I'll miss hearing him on the Brodeo(aka GFW Radio) and Legendary thread, and also his live blogs, man those war hilarious.  What is it like 17 years at 1up, that's crazy.  He seemed like a great guy.  He's moving on to some position in EA, I'm sure he'll enjoy his new job.  Well for now I'm looking forward to the final Brodeo with him.  It should be great.
And hey I'm getting Spore tomorrow! Woohoo!

Birthday

So it's my birthday to day.  I'm now 16.  It was a pretty good day.  We got a limo and took me and a bunch of friends to IHOP for breakfast and then were dropped off at school.  The rest of the day proceeded to be better than most.  Anyway I haven't blogged in awhile.  AP World History is freakin hard and I've got a ton of work in all my classes and also marching band; btw we performed very well at the game today.  Anyway with my birthday money and gift cards I plan to buy Spore and the upcoming STALKER: Clear Sky.  I can't wait to try them out!  Anyway that's all for now.  Sorry I haven't been on much.  Just been very busy.  I'm sure you can understand.  Well that's all I have for now.  Oh and I've played through Castle Crashers with my brother and I thought it was pretty awesome.  Now that's all I think.  Later.

Computer Fixed!

Well I fixed my computer!  Kind of.  So for those of you who don't know I run an SLI rig.  So the problem was that something was wrong with my primary GPU I assume.  So I removed that card and replaced it with my secondary.  Everything seems to be working fine now.  Just somewhat upset to lose a card I payed 500 bucks for.  I'm just glad I got it fixed though.

Castle Crashers

So my computer is still screwed up, but I've somehow managed to get by.  Luckly Castle Crashers was released so I thought I'd play that with my brother.  It's very great.  We've already played through the entire game once.  I love the art style and humor.  What a great month for the live arcade!

Anyway after playing that first play through I decided to try and fix my comuter.  I worked three hours straight.  I at first thought the problem might be driver related but found that it is most likely not.  I'm figuring it's something wrong with my physical GPUs.  I do not believe they are dead though because my comuter still recognizes that they are there.  I hope I figure this out soon. It's very stressful.

Anyway go check out the Castle Crashers demo.  It's definitely worth a try.

Update on computer: So I saw on my gpus' lcd display it says "FF".  I was thinking this meant something along the lines of fully f*****, luckly it means fully functional.  This doesn't completely put off thetheory of the problem being the card itself but it gives me some hope.
