Poor Valve, poor Gabe. The kid is 20.

In other words, an adult. I'm pretty sure even most 15 year olds know not to threaten peoples lives on the internet - especially when you have a BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP with that person.

And I'd hardly call anything that happens career-wise at age 20 "life shattering".

I empathize with him, in that I hope people aren't slinging shit at him on the internet. But it's also clear that the guy hasn't learned a goddamn thing from this experience, judging by his twitter account. He's sitting around feeling sorry for HIMSELF, not feeling any contrition for what he actually did.

It's also pretty clear that the guy hasn't really learned anything from this experience. Look at what he's retweeting on his account - all either empathizing with him, or outright minimizing and disputing what he actually did. He's revealing his actual thoughts through retweets.

Don't say you're "going to kill" someone on the internet, unless it's followed by a clear indication that you're joking, and about 15 smiling emoticons. This really isn't a difficult rule.

I hate when people try to minimize this kind of stuff by saying it's "just a tweet". Tweets are your words. Tweets aren't some sort of sub-form of language.

A tweet saying you're going to kill someone, should be taken just as seriously as saying you''re going to kill someone in a public setting. It doesn't become less "real" because it''s the internet.

This guy was an idiot, and hurt all of his co-workers by being a hot-head on the internet. I don't feel bad for him; I hope he learns from it.

Requested to join NA East 2. May have also asked to join NA East 1, but not sure - their website for this stuff is kind of shitty and confusing.

PSN tag is "scottoest".

Also, anyone and everyone feel free to add me as a friend on PSN. I'm constantly playing Destiny, but have almost no one to play with on my PSN friends list. Been jonesing to run heroic strikes and raids, but it's a pain without friends and/or matchmaking. I've got a lvl 27 Titan who is about one light point away from being lvl 28, and the lvl 24 strikes are too easy and boring.

@scotto: That's a very violent thing to say.

Considering it's literally impossible, you should probably assume I meant it rhetorically, to express my exasperation.

I want to write a program that causes a fist to come out of the monitor of anyone who unironically uses the term "social justice warrior".

For all that insistence that "#GamerGate" is only about games journalism criticism, it's strangely "coincidental" that it has fixated almost entirely on female journalists and developers (already a tiny minority).

I actually agree with the principle that one misogynist lunatic doesn't represent a "movement" - particularly on the internet, where anyone can say or claim anything - but at this point there's way too much evidence that the heart of this supposed movement is completely diseased with people who think this way.

The Zoe Quinn thing was a prime example. You don't base a grassroots "movement" over dogging a small indie dev a about story that wound up being 100% smoke. It was never about the alleged 'conflict of interest - it was about a certain group of 4channers deciding to ruin her life, because they didn't approve of her alleged sexual history.

Giant Bomb have reviewed Double Fine and Harmonix games, despite having personal friendships with devs from both studios. They even featured their games for things like Thursday Night Throwdown. Now, I'm not for a second suggesting any actual impropriety on Giant Bomb's part.... but if you were one of these "gamergate" people who are only claiming to be fighting the good fight against the slightest whiff of journalistic corruption... why weren't people like Jeff subjected to the same avalanche of harrassment as Zoe Quinn, or Jenn Frank?

If I'm grateful for one thing out of "#GamerGate", it's that the hashtag made it easier for me to filter these hateful children out of my twitter feed.

2 playthroughs รข 80hours of this original masterpiece stands to testament how horribly bad the sequel was (which I put maybe 10hrs into and didn't bother to get far in)

Dragon Age: Origins is one of my top five games of all time, in terms of how much I enjoyed playing it, and how much time I spent playing it. Dragon Age 2 I finished, and then never touched again, because I was so disappointed with the idiotic conclusion to the story, among other things.

@milkman: There is no blog section to this site. There is a blog section of the guardian. Big difference. Jenn's article was in the news section, not the blog section. It is not clearly marked as an opinion piece and if it was people would have less of an issue with it. Claiming people don't know anything without providing a strong reasoning for your own issues is a clear way to show you don't care about anyone else's opinion.

Anyway, been attacked enough here. Glad to see dissenting thoughts are so welcome here. People need to be more introspective when they claim to be against attacks

So this is what the argument has been reduced to? "It was posted in the news section, and not clearly marked enough". This is the basis for a "-gate" scandal these days?

And for that, she was subjected to the same avalanche of juvenile misogynists who have been abusing Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian.
