Games I beat in 2011

Every game I've completed the main single-player mode in this year.

List items

  • Finish Date: January 1st

    Platform: PC

Wow, this game is fantastic, especially when you consider it's now over 7 (!!!) years old. It reinvented the Prince of Persia franchise, and, dare I say it, action-adventure games in this vein with a mix of puzzles and combat, paving the way for such greats as God of War and Assassin's Creed. Although I had this before for PS2 I never finished it, but it's great to see how this game is the origin for so much. I'm really looking forward to replaying Warrior Within and The Two Thrones as well.

  • Finish Date: January 16th

Easily one of the best downloadable games I've ever played, great exploration and collecting with satisfying combat, leveling mechanics and just general awesomeness in every aspect. Definitely worth the 1200MP entry price!

  • Finish Date: January 18th

    Platform: PC

Playing this game through for the second or third time just cements it as one of my all time favourite games. The story, the excellent shooting gameplay, the way everything just feels so.... unscripted, is just amazing. Definitely among the best ever!

  • Finish Date: January 24th

    Platform: PC

Easily one of the best horror games I've played, atmospheric with great sound design and visuals, super-gory and with a few decent jump-scares to be had. I'm really looking forward to getting into the second part of Isaac's crazy story later on this year!

  • Finish Date: February 7th

    Platform: PC

A worthy follow-up to Sands of Time, I really liked the vastly improved combat system and darker tone as the Prince attempts to change history. The mechanic where you travel between the past and present versions of a level, and later on, influence them through your actions is really cool, and explored quite in depth in the game, which weighs in pretty long compared to many of its contemporaries. Replaying this on the PC was great fun and I'm looking forward to getting back into Two Thrones and maybe the reboot too, later on!

  • Finish Date: February 12th

    Platform: 360

Interesting shooter, I really appreciated the humour and characters in the single-player game, which had an amusing, road-trip/buddy movie style while still remaining serious and action-packed. Not the best single player shooter out there, but you could do worse.

  • Finish Date: February 20th

    Platform: 360

While the story mode was a bit silly and just a way to get from one fight to the next, I appreciated their effort to actually have a story, and it was at least pretty interesting. I'll still be playing this game for a while at local multiplayer with friends though.

  • Completion Date: March 1st

    Platform: PC

My second playthrough, great little addition to Half Life 2, although it feels pretty short compared to the other games in the series, it still has its fair share of great moments. I'll replay Episode Two later in the year as well.

  • Finish Date: March 6th

    Platform: PC

I can see why many people were disappointed with this game, especially if they had paid full price for it. But for £3, I found it to be a pretty decent shooter, even if it's not up to IO's previous efforts like Blood Money.

  • Finish Date: March 8th

    Platform: PC

A truly great FPS, reminds me just how hard the genre can be sometimes. Amazing sound design and atmosphere, even a few good jump-scares to be had. The last few levels are nothing short of outstanding, and while the game takes a while to get there, it was definitely a trip worth taking. I'm looking forward to playing the expansion packs and FEAR 2 later in the year and I'm now excited about what they can do with F3AR/FEAR 3.

  • Finish Date: March 11th

    Platform: PC

Still unbelievably good the second time round, beautiful graphics, slick fighting, awesome stealth and great story. The only low point is the boss battles, which are all kind of generic, but the rest of the game more than makes up for it. My Game of the Year 2009, and one of my favourite games of all time.

  • Finish Date: March 14th

    Platform: PC

What started off as a little-bit-too-easy dungeon crawler (I played on Normal) turned into a mad AoE/Potiondrinking-fest over the last few levels and an absurd final boss. Despite this big inconsistency I loved the game, and may revisit it on another character or difficulty. Looking forward to Torchlight 2 in July!

  • Finish Date: March 29th

    Platform: PC

Great game, fast paced combat and interesting puzzles, some people say it's a bit derivative but I think, as with Dead Space, that this helps rather than harms the game. The end of the story sets it up perfectly for a sequel, so I'll be looking out for that.

  • Finish Date: April 4th

    Platform: PC

Hilarious RPG with some cool combat and great humour all the time. The fight with Mime Cthulhu at the end was awesome! Looking forward to part 2 when I play that later this year, shame there won't be an episode 3...

  • Hero Levels Beaten: April 11th

    Platform: PC

Another decent Lego game, simple but fun with a fair bit of variety and a surprisingly large number of classic Batman villains.

  • Finish Date: May 1st

    Platform: 360

Crazy bit of DLC, very self-aware and crazy while still adding to the core RDR experience. Sasquatches, zombies, unicorns, the four horses of the apocalypse... lots of crazy nonsense to do :P

  • Finish Date: May 4th

    Platform: PC

3rd or 4th time through this game, played through it while waiting for Portal 2 to download. It's still a great experience, and this time I had forgotten exactly how to do most of the levels, so it still felt fresh. Can't wait to get into Portal 2!

  • Single Player finished: May 6th

    Co-Op finished: May 9th

    Platform: PC

Jaw-dropping. This game just proves that no company can make games even half as good as Valve's. I don't even know what to say, the game was just so damn good...

  • Finish Date: August 8th

    Platform: PC

Not sure what the ending meant, but this was another good action/horror game despite being pretty short and a bit easier than the first. Good fun!

  • Finish Date: August 18th

So I got bored... and ended up playing through the entirety of this game in a few days... it's an alright 2D platformer, but I kind of wish Nintendo would stop recycling it for every console they put out...

  • Finish Date: September 5th

    Platform: PC

Great sandbox Bethesda game, although it suffers from Gamebryo jank. Looking forward to doing a bit more DLC/sidequests and moving on to New Vegas later.

  • Finish Date: September 6th

    Platform: PC

Well that was short. Blazed through in less than 5 hours! Decent co-op shooter action with a friend, marred by some pretty bad technical issues in the PC version of the game. Only cost me £3 though, so eh.

  • Finish Date, September 25th

    Platform: PC

Pretty much the textbook example of a 3-star game, fun enough to keep me entertained, but marred by some technical glitches, lame free-roam sections, and the simple fact that it appears to have been designed from the ground up as a co-op game, then suddenly the developers couldn't be bothered.

  • Finish Date: October 22nd

    Platform: PC

Beautiful indie puzzle-platformer but with noticeable control jankiness, luckily it didn't outstay its welcome and was overall a fun experience. I won't bother going back for all 'dem collectables though...

  • Finish Date: October 23rd

    Platform: PC

Hey, that modern military first person shooter? Turns out it has a short, linear campaign mode which is alright! Good fun for a campaign but ultimately inferior to the multiplayer, and to the single player of its contemporaries.

  • Finish Date: November 1st

    Platform: PC

Not sure what to write about this game, other than that it's fantastic and the ending made me super excited to play Brotherhood. :D

  • Finish Date: November 2nd

    Platform: PC

Great atmosphere, lovely graphics, spoiled a tiny bit by drawn out forced combat sections and spotty AI/stealth mechanics. I'll definitely check out Metro: Last Light as more info emerges about that.

  • Finish Date: November 20th

    Platform: PC

That ending! Excellent game, despite only coming out a year after AC2. Multiplayer is also great, but not many people are playing it now, I'll get Revelations later this year to continue the crazy-ass story.

  • Finish Date: November 28th

    Platform: PC

Another awesome Batman game from Rocksteady, refining what was great about the first but losing a little something from being too open-world. I'll continue to play to finish up side missions and collect trophies, but may give the New Game Plus mode a try too.

  • Date Finished: December 1st

    Platform: PC

Haunting, amazing atmosphere, good puzzles, overall excellent game!

  • Date Finished: December 11th

It took me 56 tries, but I finally killed Mom! Great little game, though I technically didn't beat the game, just unlocked the full game, but I'll take what I get.. :P

  • Date Finished: December 16th

I was really up and down with this game, on the one hand it's a fairly decent platformer with awesome art style and graphics, on the other it's too long and doesn't control as well as it should... Could have been better, but not altogether unenjoyable.

  • Date Finished: December 20th

Awesome start to the long-running episodic game series, I picked it up for a song at the Steam sale in Autumn so I'm looking forward to playing through some more silly adventures!

  • Date Finished: December 21st

Some of the most satisfying arcade shooting I've ever played, the game doesn't take itself too seriously either. Unfortunately the network code for the PC version is pretty rubbish and the game suffers from a few crashes, though I only had 1 or 2 playing the game in single-player.
