All the gushing on the interwebs about the Avengers flick made me foray deep into the world of man, and I finally saw a movie in 3D.

Odd sensation, the 3D experience. Took my brains about 20 minutes to calibrate to the input the silverscreen fed it, before the frequent double vision stopped and the semi-headache cleared. Then an odd yet awesome sense of crystal clarity set in, as well as a kind of overblown pop-up book type of depth perception (fit very well with the subject matter at hand).

Dunno where I stand on it. I'd love to watch a whole bunch of movies in 3D and fully adapt to it, to form a conclusive opinion. How's it for you moviegoing guys? Does the oddness ever completely stop? Did you jump and buy a 3D homecinema setup?

I mean I'm one 3D screen away from watching 3D Blurays on my PS3... it's just... odd yet awesome, and it's completely inconclusive if I'm into 3D or not.

I love 3D, I feel like it enhanced the experience and just makes it way cooler.  
I saw my first 3D film probably around 6 or 7 years ago, so for me the 3D doesn't feel weird at all - I don't remember ever having problems though.

For most movies I don't feel it adds anything to the experience. The last movie that had 3D that I thought was any good was Hugo. There is a specific scene in there (involves a train) which makes really good use of it. For the most part it is just a gimmick that got old pretty fast for me. Also, my eyes get fatigued and I sometimes get a headache after a little while. I also wear glasses and glasses on glasses suck.

I avoid movies in 3D. I hate paying extra for a gimmick.

I've never seen a 3D movie. I played Black Ops in 3D hour about and I hated it.

Say what you will about 3D movies, but Avatar was a once in a life time visual journey that missing out on is a huge mistake.

I saw avatar and Jackass in 3D and that was enough. It's just a dumb gimmick.

a friend of mine really wanted to see the avengers in 3D

i had no problems seeing the effects right away and no double vision but god i always get a splitting headache about 10min in and it usually lasts until the end of the movie, i could just remove the glasses and then the headache would go away fairly fast but whats the point then the movie is useless

This, and before I wore glasses 3D sucked. And this was imax 3D, not some shitty hollywood 3D.

I see movies in 3D whenever the option is available, and in movies such as Avatar, Transformers 3 and Avengers I felt the 3D really added to the experience. I also don't feel any discomfort with the effect or the glasses themselves.

Keep in mind that you shouldn't compare movie theater 3D with home theater 3D, or at least not assume they're inherently of the same quality. The few of my friends that own a 3D home theater has the active kind (with expensive glasses) and not the passive kind found in movie theaters, and they say the effect is far superior, although experts seem divided on the subject, and both modes have their pros and cons.

Imax 3d isn't the best 3d. The polarized lenses in Imax force you into a very narrow field of view forcing you to actually move your eyes around to manually focus the image and god forbid you actually turn your head.

The best I have tried is the Nvidia 3D vision 2 kit. Because the monitor pulses light in time with the active-shutter lenses there is no reduction in image brightness, there is less ghosting than any 3D television I have seen in store, the glasses block out ambient light to prevent glare, and they fit over seeing glasses better than those cheap RealD 3d glasses that get handed out at movie theaters.

The only thing I bothered to see in 3D was Avatar. I think that was worth it. 3D makes my eyes hurt and I'm in the "I already wear glasses" boat as well.

I feel that watching in 3D sacrifices some color fidelity and I'm not too keen on that at all.

Additionally, the 3D effect doesn't look "correct" because 99% of the 3D looks like 2D assets popping out at you as opposed to objects themselves having actual depth.

Now if there was a 3D technology that keeps its colors and makes movies look like you're watching a scene through a window, I'll be convinced.

First and last movie I saw in 3D or at all in the theaters, Piranha 3D.

3D is fantastic. It gives a depth to the visuals that a normal TV just cannot. It's not about the "Jumping off the screen" bullshit but the fact that things looks like they are on a 3D plane.

@Seppli: Generally, don't waste your time with movies filmed in 2D and converted to 3D. The technology is improving, but it's nowhere near what movies filmed in 3D look like. Films like Avatar, Monsters vs Aliens(and many 3D animated movies nowadays), Caroline, and Tron Legacy really show off the impact of 3D, as they were filmed and intended to be in 3D. A lot of movies are converted to 3D now, but the ones that were filmed in 3D really show off what 3D can do. So, if you're interested in it, I'd check those movies out first.

Avengers was the first 3D film which I actually got a headache from- I think it was because we were given seats to the side of the theatre and the frames weren't meshing correctly at that angle or something.

I saw Toy Story 3 in 3D and was bang in the centre of the room, thought it was brill.

I hate 3D. It barely gives anything in entertainment value unless they really put down the work and money "like Avatar", It's expensive, I hate the glasses, it gives me headaches... The cons far outweigh the pros in my case.

Avatar in 3D is the only movie I've seen worth it.

Avatar proved the concept to me with its first twenty minutes (the rest of the film actually did nothing for me visually,) and Up and Toy Story 3 were perfectly pleasant in 3D. Outside of those, any movie I've seen in 3D (which at least includes Thor and Harry Potter 7.2) was not worth seeing in 3D.

Seeing those pop-screens and hard sci-fi environments in Avatar really did wow me and have me acknowledge that the 3D effect can be really cool. I haven't seen a movie that makes great use of it yet, though.

The allusion in that scene makes so much more sense if you see it in 3D! Oh, man, I didn't, but it's so obvious now that I could hit myself.

My biggest problem with 3D is that it's raising the already-too-high price of movies in theaters to even more astronomical levels. 20 dollars for a movie? Count me out.
