Cripes ... just go to Tom's Hardware and look at their monthly recommended video card article.

1982 or 1983 ... my neighbor had ColecoVision and I was obsessed with the Smurfs game. We had Atari 2600 -- I loved Barnstorming, Pitfall, Haunted House, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Pac-Man, Grand Prix, Enduro.

My mom worked at a bowling alley at the time, so we'd spend non-school days with her. The arcade had some of the greatest cabinents ... Donkey Kong, Zaxxon, Dig Dug, Bagman, Pac-Man.

Why do I get the feeling Gertsmann can't bring himself to fully admit he likes this game?

I know it's not "cool" to say anything positive about any Sony-related product, but cripes, give it a rest already. It's just video games. Graphics, explosions, boom, pow, fun.

id (and Epic ... and Crytek ... and Valve, to some degree) are in the business of game engines and AAA shooters.

So every time you see these guys say, "PC gaming isn't what it used to be," what they actually mean is shooters aren't selling on PC like they used to. So they have to go where their customers are.

But it drives me nuts whenever I hear these FPS egomaniacs claim the state of AAA shooters = the state of PC gaming.

PC gaming still has a portion of the shooter crowd, and basically the entire sim, strategy and MMO crowd. I don't see that changing this generation. Maybe not even next generation.

Early '80s. My mom worked at a bowling alley, and I'd get free credits in the arcade from the people who worked there.

Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Zaxxon, Bag Man were favorites.

We got an Atari 2600 later. Our neighbors had a Colecovision. Even when I was a kid, I'd drool over the better graphics on Coleco and in the arcades. :)

Looks great. My first PC gaming rig had a Radeon 9700 Pro, so I've been rooting for ATI even though my last two video cards were Nvidia.

Currently have a 640MB 8800 GTS. Don't really feel the need to upgrade anytime soon, unless there are some new games coming that deserve some boosted hardware purchases.

It's not a matter of opinion. Gears 2 looks factually better than KZ2. The environments are more vivid and detailed. Horizons are more realistic. Character models are more detailed. Lighting effects are more pronounced and realistic. Destructible cover, more unique enemies, larger-scale battles, more unique weapons.

Face it -- KZ2 looks like a CoD 4 knockoff. Gears 2 has established itself as its own franchise with its own identity. Killzone was a generic me-too shooter on PS2, and looks like it will be another generic me-too shooter on PS3.

I don't even own a 360, and I can see this.

Why am I even in this thread. Time to go.

Doom, Master of Orion and the original Civilization. My friends had them on their computers in college, and I got hooked pretty bad.

I once played Civilization for about 30 hours straight. No sleep, skipped some classes, barely left the dorm room. ... lol .. (sigh)

This was 10+ years ago. I can't even imagine how bad the temptation must be now with the Call of Dutys, Halos, and World of Warcrafts out there.
