I think if it is like any of the other updates, we can keep our old world, but the new algorithms for biome generation will only effect territory that we have not discovered yet. So, long story short, we're going to have to do some exploring in order to generate the effects of the update.

Also, I don't know if anyone here happens to be familiar with the TV show "ReBoot" from back in the '90s. Well, I've been watching it like mad on Netflix lately and I can't help but think that recreating the city of Mainframe within Minecraft would be an incredibly fun, not to mention ambitious, endeavor. I may wait until the next big update so that we can construct it in virgin territory, but if that sounds like the kind of project that anyone would be interested in, let me know.

Also, I'd be happy to take up a position with the security force if you need a guardian to look out for unruly sprites and unauthorized TNT.

So, I popped on last night and hopped some trains back to Alsatia and then down the way to Arcania. I am loving what is going on in the city of Bourbon. Security HQ, town bulletin board, very nice. I intend to, hopefully, be spending a bit more time on the server, as it looks like a big update may be incoming. As it stands, I still have yet to mess with any of the piston technology. It may be time to put together the Alsatian Institute of Technology for the sake of keeping all our construction secrets open to the masses. Hopefully this time around it won't get lost in a server reset.

@Dahitman: I'm digging that two-way subway launcher. I know Tompsweeney has done some amazing things engineering switchers and launchers and stuff like that around the Pit City side of things. For those of you who are interested in setting up an engineering laboratory or public informational display on redstone wiring or track rigging, the Engineering Institute of Alsatia is in the process of being constructed on the top tier of the new Terrace on the Waterfront. Let me know how much space you will need and I'll set up an area for experimentation with redstone and tram system logistics.  Once the area is constructed, it will be a designated zone for access to redstone, switches, buttons, pressure plates, etc. that anyone may acquire for rigging doorways, trains, traps.

Change is afoot in Alsatia! Over the weekend, myself and many others pulled some long hours and after much carving of earth, The Terrace in Alsatia will now be open to those looking to construct something new within the city. The Terrace is a 3-tiered stone step overlooking the lake upon which homes, warehouses, or commercial buildings can be established upon or within. Each tier is roughly 12-wide and then steps down 5 or 6 blocks to the next tier. If you have an idea for what you would like to construct, get with me and I'll help parcel off a segment for you to begin construction in. Cheers!

@YoctoYotta: We could always all learn to go to bed and skip night time all together, then collect the burned up bodies and mats in the morning! Seriously though, I want to make sure everybody is having fun, if this is going to scare away people like you and Murundi I can satisfy my bloodlust through other channels. Like I said, I just thought it might be a good way to build solidarity and get people teaming up against a common enemy. We can always do that in the Nether if we so choose, however. So it is entirely up in the air.

@mrv321: Alsatia is always happy to provide supplies. I haven't been on much lately due to checking out the veritable deluge of quality XBox Live Arcade titles that have been issuing forth from the golden font of Microsoft, but I'll definitely try to pop on tonight or tomorrow to go on a mining kick in order to stock some torches and the like for people to protect their areas.  I think that defense shelter at spawn is as good a place as any for a central location for nations to deposit such things at.

Hopefully, in the long run, this will help build solidarity as a community and we'll start seeing some interesting developments crop up in order to defend ourselves in the night time. I know Greyhollow was being developed before the monsters started popping up, but that wall they have going on over there is pretty incredible, it has definitely spiced up the ride to Arcania, and provided a good damn reason to start installing track switchers and station stops along that track.

If things don't work out and monsters are getting too much for people, perhaps we can alternate safe nether weeks, and safe open world weeks. Some lore would have to be established to explain why monsters appear at certain times and why ghasts are tame other times...

So, what's the verdict on monsters, for those who have experienced them so far. It is certainly going to take some getting used to, and areas still need to be lit up to prevent monster spawns. I've certainly enjoyed being able to go out at night and hunt down strings and bones and such, but if it is going to be too much of a turn-off for people I don't want it to be a point of contention.

So, are we feeling good about it or would we much rather the nether be our dedicated danger zone?
