Weekly Gaming Round-Up.

The Nintendo 3DS has been here well over a week now and having played with it for an hour or two a day I am surprisingly impressed. I’ve never been a huge fan of handhelds as I do not do a great deal of travelling but my obsession with owning all hardware from day one is sometimes a wasteful expense but it calms me knowing I have that nice new shiny gadget sitting on a shelf and one day a game I really want to play will come out.

Anyway i decided not to buy the 3DS as there where no games of interest at this moment of time except Street Fighter 4 3D and well thats best played on the consoles, but opportunity reared its head as my sister wanted to get a new contract phone for her husband's birthday and wanted the Kinect with it so i made a deal where i went out and bought her the Kinect for 100 pounds and i got the 3DS worth 220 pounds that she got with her contract phone so thats why i have it at launch, good deal i thought.

And so I went out and bought Super Street Fighter 4 3D as it was the only game I was interested in and it does not disappoint, I was very surprised by the amount of features in the game and how good the graphics were, the 3D gives off a nice feel of depth in SF4, especially in the menu's where it looks great, I may write a review once I have played quite a bit more as I have been playing the only other game I have for it at the moment which is Asphalt 3D on rental, and it's surprisingly good also nothing special but good nonetheless, I think it get quite a bit of lee-way as it's a launch title like most launch games do but again the 3d effect is nice and has nice car models and tracks and plenty of variety.

The system itself is excellent and as Ryan Davis said in the Bombcast a little while back it feels like the first modern handheld with the pause/resume feature, friends list etc, we will just have to wait and see things like street pass and the coins be used in a good way, although the SF4 street pass features are nice I have not managed to meet anyone yet to have a street pass battle, Jeff made me laugh also as I have been carrying it everywhere with in a hope to find some mii's in my plaza.

Also this week I have been playing allot of Final Fantasy 13, I bought the game at launch played a few chapters and it fell way down the pile but recently started playing it again and once you get passed the first 15+ hours it get interesting, for me it happened when the Paradigms were unlocked as the first several hours were tedious with the auto-battle but the system is very deep and complex and auto-battle is key to this system, it allows you to concentrate and the roles and strategize accordingly, I am hoping to review FF13 soon as I just started chapter 11 after 43 hours but I imagine I have quite a few hours to go as I am one of those gamers that has to check every nook and cranny, I am really enjoying FF13 now the story and battle system has sucked me in and this is the furthest I have gotten into an FF game since 7 not because of me not being a fan, just circumstance as during my late teens and early 20's mass hours of gaming where off the agenda, but after this I am definitely going to go back and play some FF games I missed.

Also I played a little bit of a few new PC games i bought, Crysis 2 led me back to Crysis and Crysis warhead as i hate missing games so i went back and started to play those before really getting into Crysis 2 but that will have to wait untill i finish FF 13, also bought and tried Shift 2 and am looking forward to playing more, Batman was a game I missed and steam had it on sale for £3.50 so i bought that played a little, Dragon age 2 also, and AC:brotherhood on 360, thats why i always have a huge backlog  as I buy things before i finish the ones im playing and get overwhelmed with choice, oh Dead Space 2, crapped myself several times while playing the first hour looks great.

Well its been a long week and the weekend is finally here so I'm hoping to finish FF 13 this weekend but with Newcastle vs Aston Villa on tv and other football its doubtful.

Happy gaming all.
