I liked it. The more comedic angle was a good move. I was hoping for some good scares, but laughs will do.
The wrapper story: worth it for the final shot, forgettable otherwise.
Phase 1: A ridiculous (but kind of interesting) premise that doesn't hold up to even the slightest scrutiny. Not at all scary, and I'd have preferred that they went a different direction with things, but it was entertaining.
Ride in the Park: My initial thought was "Oh come on. Zombies? Anthologies are for unique ideas."... How wrong I was. That was some great black comedy with a surprisingly somber ending. Second best segment in the movie.
Safe Haven: Could have and should have been terrifying, but wasn't. Still, my favorite segment of both movies. Super creative, with all kinds of misdirection as to where the plot's going. The end scene scored a belly laugh from me.
Alien Abduction: Dog cam? Awesome. Everything else? Meh. The aliens looked ridiculous, the characters were annoying, and the frenetic pace was just sensory overload in a bad way. Funny how the first VHS saved the best for last, and the sequel saved the worst.
6/10 sounds about right.
If the series stays on this path of improvement, I'll be very happy to see a V/H/S 3, and I'll be first in line for 4.
