The Countdown is up!

Whew, Finally! I've been waiting for Giant Bomb to blow up since a long, long time.

Let's face the facts, ever since the Gamespot incident, everyone knew that Jeff was going to go off and make an uber-cool games site.  There was a large out flux of readers and some very valuable editors. I stopped using Gamespot as a primary games resource and shifted to Kotaku instead.

I first got to know about Giant Bomb through Jeff's blog. It was pretty great even as a blog. I've been reading all the posts, watching all the videos (those how to build a bomb episodes were pretty entertaining.) and listening to the podcasts. I just  popped in today to check up on the blog and was amazed to find a full fledged website in its place.

Now, let's get to the site. I absolutely love it! It's surpassed all my expectations.

  • Ease of Use: First and foremost, the site is VERY easy to use. You can get to any game in seconds without having to wait for search results to pop up and then having to flip through irrelevant results first. Also it's very easy to upload content, all you have to do is click on a conveniently located button. Look at how easy it is to make a list!
  • User uploaded content: I love the idea of relying on user related content for the database, I think this was a very wise decision. I also think it's a great to actually reward users for uploading content. As Wikipedia has proved, user uploaded content is the future.
  • Pop-ups: No, I don't mean the bad kind. The ones on GB are actually helpful. I love how pop ups are used to show enlarged versions of images or extra info.
  • It's easy to register: I'm always a bit hesitant to sign up on websites because frankly, its a pretty long procedure and I always feel a bit lazy when it comes to registration. GB completely eliminates those problems. All you have to do is fill in some info in one of those awesome pop-ups and you're done.
  • Links: Everything here is linked 'Wikipedia style', but only easier. So, that means that once I'm on the MGS page, I can easily go over to the Solid Snake page, the MGS4 page, or even the Policenauts page.

So, that's about it. If the list looks a bit short, it's because I haven't even explored the site properly yet. I haven't even seen the forums yet.  I think I'll post some more when I'm done exploring.
