I too declined my renewal when my sub expired. Honestly though, I'm thinking I might resub later this year as this place still feels fun to me. It's not the same Giant Bomb I loved but it's alright still and I enjoy it alongside Nexlander.
Honestly - it all depends on the game. I've certainly had more than a few games I've invested that amount of time into, but very rarely would I go into a game intending to invest that amount of time.
Way back when the PS4 launched (seems like a million years ago now) I bought my first 3 games on disc, those were, until Ringfit Adventure on Switch (physical only release in North America), my last physical purchases. I don't really care if I cannot play these games one day twenty years down the road and so I'm glad to stay all digital moving forward.
I'm on two weeks of unpaid leave from work, and that's about to expire. I'm leaning towards not returning to my job of 13 years because I have a person in my household with a depressed immune system that this would potentially be lethal for. My plan for survival is to live on what I have in my emergency fund and slowly bleed out what I have of holdings until there is nothing left. I'm hopeful I can make it a year before things get too ugly.
Yeah. GB did a poor job of surfacing it this year. I had to dig to find the form despite knowing it had been posted. I feel like in prior years it always had a prominent front page spot.
The earliest example I remember of this on a console game was an SNES RPG called Robotrek. It has been a long time (decades) since I played it, so I'm probably a little off in how I remember it functioned, but it was pretty unique for the time.
