@bane: Hah, I know there was a ring like that in DaS2 at least, I found one that makes you look like a white phantom in DaS3 so I'm only assuming the other is still in the game :)

EDIT: Just read other guys comment. Cool to know that's in still!

@bane: in regards to the 'two hosts' things, one of them could easily be a phantom. There's rings that can change how you appear.

Felt some frustration of a different kind today. (I'm assuming this is getting to late-game spoilers now) Talking about the Yhorm fight. Just such a boring, "only one way to do this" fight, when it should have been inventive and engaging like the other two Lords of Cinder fights were. This is honestly up there with Bed of Chaos for me.

I adored that fight, pure Demon's Souls fanservice boss. That boss made me way to giddy when I saw how to beat him.

I only got annoyed/frustrated at one boss, actually, and that was Champ. I consider him as being the first boss in any of the games to beat me, only missed three bosses in the game too apparently (him, the one after, and another one in a hard to find area).

Demon's was my first, I've loved all of them since (except DaS2 for reasons), while I still love some of the systems/mechanics in Demon's that's absent from the later titles Bloodborne took the spot as my favorite, yet Bloodborne is the one I don't really want to play again for some reason, with Demon's or Dark 1 being the ones I'd happily go back to at any time.

EDIT: A big reason Demon's Souls is my favorite is a large part because of the bosses. They're mostly all puzzle-style bosses and I absolutely adore it. I'm a bit sad that they moved away from that as I'll always remember the Old Hero and sneaking around him, the feeling like a complete dick for having to kill Maiden Astrea when she just wants to be left alone to take care of the people that the world threw away, or splitting the sky open with the Stormbringer to defeat the Storm King. I miss bosses like those that were just fucking cool and had some cool mechanics in play. Sure, ManEater lives on via the Gargoyles but nothing feels as terrifying as fighting them on a small bridge, and while the Mirror Knight summons players to fight with it it just doesn't live up to walking up stairs to get a boss cutscene summoning a player (or npc if you're offline/unlucky) that could royally fuck your day up. That's not even including the black phantoms that appear when you're in pure black soul tendency, or their human selves that appear in pure white.

While some of the bosses were gimmicky and/or just plain easier than their worlds (the Swamp levels for example), they were some of the most memorable moments out of all the games. The main ones I love in the later games would be Artoreas from the DaS1 dlc, Mariah from Bloodbornes dlc, and Sif. All the others just aren't as memorable to me. Y'know what, fuck Bloodborne. Demon's Souls is still my favorite of them, Bloodborne can keep the 'coolest setting' with the Cthullu shit though.

@shiro2809: You really have no problems with Iron Man 3? The superfluous little boy story? All the downtime where nothing happens. Piper getting super powers because hey why not and then magically getting fixed? The entire Mandarin part that made most of that movie kind of pointless and ridiculous? From both a story and directing perspective Iron Man 3 was such a disappointment and so so much worse than any single bad element of BvS.

Then again, we seem to be at odds in terms of taste in movies because I vastly preferred the first Captain America to Winter Soldier. It was completely goofy and campy and I guess I sort of liked that a lot more than the brooding, self-serious tone of Winter Soldier - mostly because Marvel tries to eat it's cake and have it too byhaving a bunch of goofs and gags left and right but then they try to throw in this super somber story in the mix and it completely falls flat (in my opinion of course).

The one thing I really disliked about Batman V Superman was the way they made Doomsday constantly radiate energy, making it this bombastic affair relegating Batman to the sidelines. Would have been so much better if they kept the tone more in line with the earlier Batman vs Superman encounter. They should have had Doomsday simply slug it out with Superman, trading blows with Batman getting a boomerang in here and there, and Wonder Woman tagging in when Supes would get knocked into a building or something. Instead they made it this special effects bonanza that I can completely admit did not fit in with the rest of the movie and was not particularly all that good either.

I never said IM3 didn't have problems, and I was fine w/ the kid and the downtime. I liked the Mandarin twist too, and I'm not sure how it made it pointless/ridiculous? Dude had a dude acting as a cover for him iirc.

My main complaints with BvS boil down to the editing being terrible since the scenes don't go together that well together, normally I don't notice pacing problems at all so when I do I'd have to think it's pretty ridiculous. The other thing is mainly Louis Lane and her doing nonsensical things (example, again, going to get the spear after she tosses it. I have no idea how that was even left in the movie). I haven't had any of these issues in the Marvel movies, and that might be because I just didn't notice it or it was minor enough that I didn't mind it to much. BvS I constantly kept noticing things and/or found it jarring when it jumps from scene to scene, and it's no excuse for the titular fight to be such a disappointment.

I might need to watch the first Captain America again to see if I've warmed up to it by now.

@quizas: Because this. Superman is constantly shown to be a Jesus-like figure, so gotta make the metaphor stuff 100%.

@humanity: Great may have been a bit to strong, but I thought it was good. Fun movie, but it spent to much time setting up future movies I thought. I'm fine w/ the origin thing, but it was not needed in the slightest. Everybody knows and everybody has seen it many times, it was only there for the 'Martha' crap I think.

The only Marvel movie I don't like is the first Captain America, actually. I don't know why though, I recall hating the CG in the train scene and I didn't like that his voice didn't match his body at all at the beginning. I enjoyed all three Iron Mans. The thing with Marvel movies though is that the scenes actually transition well while BvS is just 'oh, we spent a few minutes on him, lets go to Louis (who could have been written out). Oh! We need to put in forced justice league trailers right when the titular fight is about to happen!'.

@humanity: Could not disagree more with the list posted above mentioning how the intro to the movie was weak and disjointed. The scene where the pearl necklace gets wrapped around the gun and ripped as the action on the pistol slams back was an amazing shot.

If this is referring to my post I was mainly referring to how the scenes were tied together at the beginning. There was no flow to them and it all felt disjointed. I completely agree I loved how that scene was shot and it looked great! We didn't need another origin story though. Zack Snyder's visual style is really one of the few positive things I can saw about the movie as I really enjoy it. I also enjoyed Sucker Punch and thought it was decent (the real world stuff could've used some work), and I fucking love Watchmen. BvS wasn't the worst movie I've watched, it wasn't the most boring movie I watched. I'd still prefer to watch any other movie just about then see it again.

I've enjoyed all the Marvel stuff apart from the first Captain America really, and I thought Ultron was great! It had some problems in the story department though but I enjoyed it.

Saw it yesterday w/ my dad. My dad enjoyed the Battleship movie after BvS ended he just said 'well, that wasn't good'. I have to agree, I'm a-ok with them making things darker and all. I love the general ideas they used, but holy hell was everything around it just badly done. So here's a list of things I didn't like:

  1. The editing, especially in the beginning, just seemed so poor that the scenes didn't seem to connect at all, it felt like I was watching a trailer at first.
  2. The Justice League member cameo/tie-ins were very poorly done they weren't even half assed.
  3. Wonder Woman looked to scrawny (more personal preference, but she didn't look muscular at all).
  4. Louis Lane. Why? She had no reason to be in the movie really, and most of her stuff was nonsensical. Why did she go back to grab the spear?! She had literally no way to know wtf was happening by the explosions or that the spear would be needed.
  5. Batman's origin is shown. Again.
  6. A(lex)ander Luthor. Eisenberg could've been good in the role I'd think if not for the fact that the writing was all over the place and made him seem more Joker-esque/batshit insane than anything.
  7. Nitpick: Where the hell did Bruce Wayne live?
  8. Gotham was right across a lake from Metropolis...
  9. Branding = Death Sentance? what. If anything the criminals would respect people that were branded by the Bat, not want to murder them...
  10. The main attraction to the movie, Batman and Superman fighting, was 5 minutes. The final fight against Doomsday was like 10 minutes. What the fuck?
  11. Superman's death feels unearned.
  12. Superman/Clark's funeral went on way to long (HE'S DEAD. GET IT?!)
  13. Superman's not actually dead, see?!
  14. Lex's plan was cool, but it was executed in a horribly nonsensical way, I felt.
  15. The Flash warning Bats about the future. No mention of it at all after that. Why? What was the reason?
  16. The Flash seems like such a poor casting choice. And that mustache was terrible.
  17. The population went from loving Superman, to hating him, to loving him again ridiculously fast. May just be editing issues but whatever.
  18. I get what they were trying to do with the 'Martha' thing but it was so poorly done it was laughable.
  19. Superman really couldn't find Mama Kent in the city? Really? Ok.
  20. Superman, it's a spear. Throw it. Or give it to Batman or Wonder Woman. Preferably Wonder Woman seeing as she's probably really good with them!
  21. Wouldn't the spear work better if it was kept inside Doomsday and not shoved the rest of the way through him? Sure.
  22. People, if there's a giant alien machine outside and buildings are constantly being toppled around. EVACUATE. Don't wait for your boss to call and tell you to.

So I didn't really care about the movie in the first place, I was expecting it to be bad as I basically listened to people talking about the movie in depth. It somehow exceeded my expectations and was much worse than expected. I normally always enjoy movies if I see them in the theater but I constantly found myself thinking 'what? why?' 'ok..sure' 'um..' and towards the end after they swapped from Supe's funeral to Clark's funeral for the upteenth time I just slumped into my chair sighing, waiting for it to be over.

On the other hand I got a trailer for Civil War before this and that looks like it'll be freakin' awesome.

EDIT: The first time you see Batman being Batman (hiding in the corner of the room) was awesomely freaky and I found that really well done. I'd also love a movie to be marketed as a romcom or something then halfway through bam, superhero armageddon. That opening on the streets of Metropolis was awesome.

While I'd love to see them play through Revengeance I'm fully expecting this to be the last of it. They'll just never know how to make America great :(
