If I could pick 3 pinball machines to own I would pick Bride of Pin-Bot, Theatre Magic, and Elvira: Scared Stiff. I'm glad Pinball...

Belated Top Ten of 2012.

Yeah, I know it's late. Here it is! This was an interesting year for games. I found myself more focused on smaller XBL and PC releases. There's a few heavy AAA hitters in there, but I was really pleased to play a wider variety of games this year. A lot of superb soundtracks too. I have the soundtracks for 3 of the games on here (Dustforce, Fez, and Spelunky). I'm not going to make any weird predictions for the future. I'm content to see what happens and what the new systems look like. :)

List items

  • I cannot stop playing this game. Wonderful retro-Genesis feeling soundtrack and I keep stumbling across new items and situations! And I haven't even gotten close to beating the game yet!

  • This game made me regret naming my X-com Commandoes. It's really well done and it's a shame that some bugs still plague this game. The base-building meta game and rescue missions are really great and brutal. Your squad members will die. Even the super cool callsigned veteran ones. Be prepared.

  • Incredibly violent with an off-beat 80's acid trip vibe. The story is really hard to put together on one playthrough. The game mechanics were easy to understand but required a deft and at times quick, hand. Incredible soundtrack as well.

  • Extraordinary. The music and visuals are an amazing experience. Collecting all the cubes and seeing the history and language of "Fezworld" unfold is also incredible. Would have been higher if there hadn't been that bit about the patch breaking your single solitary save.

  • I just got this for Christmas. It's pretty amazing. I loved the first Borderlands so this isn't really a surprise to me. I'm glad they added to the gameplay formula without taking much away from the experience of the original game.

  • A beautiful refinement of the original Torchlight. Without all the auction house and bug drama that Diablo 3 had with it. Co-op multiplayer is amazing as well.

  • A wonderful and rare execution of singular vision. Largely created and made by one man in about 4 years time. The only help he had was with the music and story, which is also amazing. the story is nice and it's a good unhappy ending. The fighting system is also really simple and mashey, fun to play around with and visually stunning.

  • This is a wonderful sci-fi adventure game with an amazing story. Sifting through the logs of a derelict space ship and interacting with the ship's A.I. was a wonderful treat, and tough decisions have to be made! :)

  • Remember how much crazy ball-busting fun Super Meatboy was?! Yeah?! Me too. This game came out at the very beginning of this year. It's a lovely little masocore platformer with a great mod community and a great soundtrack as well! Suck that dust!

  • Another masocore gem from the middle of the year. The physics engine is a lot of fun to mess around with once you get the hang of making and landing jumps. There is also a great level making community here with plenty of challenging free tracks to keep you busy. Try and beat my times! :)
