So I'm looking for the opinions of my betters and more nose to the ground fellows i know must dwell here. I use my PC for gaming and watching streams etc so have no use for any photoshop or editing etc.

Current system info thats relevent

2600k I7 OC'd at 4.5 ghz (cooleld by notua nh15)

16gb Ram

GTX 1080

Display is 4k UHD Samsung Smart TV

so is it time to finally give up on my 2600k? i want to start thinking about an RTX card and have never gone AMD for CPU in the past. But whats the consensus in the community? should i put the money into a new MB CPU and RAM (then is it AMDs new offering or trusty Intel) or can i hold off for the next gen Intel and AMD offerings and go for maybe a 2070 or 2080 GPU?

have a modest budget of around £500-£700 pounds depending on what price to performance i can expect ( for example i would pay the extra for a 2080 over a 2070 if it gets me another year or more out of the card)

I only have a very casual knowledge of the high end gaming computer scene so if I'm being dumb and should be waiting for the next line of RTX cards or Cpus please let me know this as well ( i can wait till Xmas/January sales etc)

Big thank you in advance and please feel free to expand on anything i'm over looking

Don’t know if you got this far but I’m stuck. So without saying too much my current objective is to check my station alerts in regard to module un3.

But the station alerts are blank and I have the coolant network hub schematic (well a slightly corrupted one) but now I’m at an impasse ? Did you get past this point ?

My biggest issue with the new site is to do with downloading videos.

A good amount of the time when I load a tab with the latest quick look etc the video starts to play and remove the download option faster than I can click download right click hd save target as.

What can be done to stop this ?

Thanks for all the input guys.

Just to further the cause, I am running the latest drivers from nvidia and my CPU is over clocked using the Auto OC on my mother board to 4.4 i have the software to OC the 680 and its the massive triple slot fan kind so has plent of cooling just never been sure what to set the numbers too so if any one knows what kind of base line to push for that would be a big help every guide i've ever seen never tells you what to set every setting at to get it right.

Your milage may vary, but a stable 680 overclock is generally in the 132% power target, 75NHz core overclock, 500MHz memory overclock. Run a game and see if things run smoothly, from then on you can push the clock speed in increments of 5MHz and Memory in 25MHz increments.

see years of on again off again searches and this is the first time i've seen anything close to that in terms of useful info thank you

This is what i get on defualt just for my peace of mind what would ppl suggest as a good starting point for numbers/high numbers to push for

Just to be complete running a i72600k 4.4ghz GTX680 Direct CU2 8gb ram (forget the speed but was fairly high end) can run things like fallout perfectly so just thinking working out best numbers for an over clock on the GPU would be best option

But sounds like Its fairly pointless changing the mother board and CPU then? and if over clocking the 680 isnt good enough just going for a 970 980 upgrade would do the job.

Not sure why just cause was running so badly its on an SSD and literally just playable at 720p on every set fully low putting the textures to medium caused massive drops in frame rate even just in the open world driving around just a bit dissapointed as havnt had to worry about poor FPS for years even when pushing games to the limit and now this one drops like a stone
