I'm having the same problem right now trying to post in the Game Room furom...when i hit "start topic" it usually fills in the attached forum automaticly but now the attach option is blank and i can't even type anything into it so i accidently published my topic to the General Discussion forum...it worked before so i dunno what the problem is.
Apparently this didn't publish when i first wrote it...
When searching the leader boards for Asteroids today i found that the first place leader has a vary suspicious replay. If you watch it you'll see someone playing a crap game of Asteroids and then the replay just pauses at around 600 points. If you watch it and skip ahead forward it will reveal the player getting at least 10,000 points per asteroid they hit in one sitting. You'll know it when you get to it as you see his extra lives start to increase within 5 second intervals.
So check out the Asteroid Deluxe Leader board, look for the top player (only player with 6 digit score), watch his replay and hit the skip forward button until you see his lives increase. It's worth a look.
So if you Go into the leaderboard menu for Asteroids Deluxe and view the replay for the number one player what do you see? someone playin a crap game of Asteroids and then the replay pauses. Thinking this was odd i rewatched the replay and skipped forward a few times to see if i missed anything and this eventually revealed whoever was playing was getting a crap ton of points and an extra life one after another just by shooting asteroids from the same spot.
I was always skeptical of the integration of the Console and Windows versions intermingling and this is probably a good case as to why.
Anyway, load up gameroom, check the Asteroids Deluxe leaderboard, view the replay of the top player (he's the only one with a triple digit score) and see for yourself. Don't forget to skip forward or the replay will pause before it gets to the exploit/cheat/whatever.
I just wanted to relay an idea i read somewhere... Krome should release paid DLC for the Konami cabinet upgrades. that way the money goes straight to that licence holder (Stern's happy) , it doesn't require Microsoft to share the royalties with an added party, plus a small profit from the DLC itself (Microsoft's happy) , and the rest of us can finally buy those machines they already made (Krome's happy).
Those who don't know about the licensing issue will bark "shenanigans", those generally smarter then those people will inform them to "just don't buy it", and those "in the know" will buy it and smile knowingly...it's a win win situation all around the table.
Excellent find...I speculated as much that they had emulations of the cabs after seeing the marquees you pionted out on xbox.com...so as it still stands we'd need word from Stern. My theory's based around HOW these systems are being licensed out... $1 for Microsoft, $1 for Konami, $1 to Krome? (though i'm sure that's over simplified) If the royalties spread like that then it could just be a business decision made to not spread the butter any thinner by adding in a fourth party to pay royalties to.
Theory 1; Microsoft's pinching pennies Theory 2; Stern are a spiteful bunch
I'm curious as to what will happen once we start seeing Stern games in the arcade.
long while ago i had written an e-mail to Krome Studios about the Konami cabinet issue ( before doing my own research into the issue ). Yesterday Krome E-mailed me Confirming the issue:
"Thanks for your email.
Authenticity is definitely key to the Game Room project, but unfortunately there are cases where were unable to licence specific artwork due to age. Where possible we do endeavor to use authentic artwork.
If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
Cameron Davis PR Officer Krome Studios "
I don't know what "due to age" actually means but; licensing issue - confirmed. Now i wonder if they'll answer my somewhat tongue & cheek e-mail about the cabinet customization suggestion.
I lasted until 3:15am eastern time...i remember Vinny was at the controls but i really don't remember anything after Splinter Cell...Forza happened but i can't remember if it was before or after Chaos Theory.
