The bait and switch that is Brutal Legend really killed my enjoyment of the title. Thinking you are getting an Action/Adventure game, then getting a poorly balanced and frustrating RTS game instead is quite the shock. I played through the battle with goths that opens up the final battle, but never finished it. I was so frustrated after finishing that stupid goth fight that the dread of the last fight caused me to turn it off and not go back. Just typing this has riled up old feelings.

  • Machinarium - Fun game that I finally got off of my pile-o-shame.
  • Persona 4 Golden - Ate up the bulk of my game time in January.
  • Kingdom Rush - Thanks to Brad.
  • SimCity - "Finished" as in 50+ hours played and I've seen most of what it has to offer.
  • Plants Vs. Zombies - Played this again after downloading it free from PS+ on Vita.
  • Tomb Raider - Just finished this one yesterday. Really enjoyed it. Maybe not as good as Uncharted 2, but I liked it more than Uncharted 3.

That's it so far, but I'm currently playing through Bully: Scholarship Edition and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. I'm pretty far into both games, but I'll probably be co-oping through Gears Of War: Judgement this weekend. I've also got Fire Emblem: Awakening in my 3DS in case I have a 30 minute chunk to play a match. I started Ni No Kuni a while back, but I just haven't had the urge to get back into it yet. In an attempt to interject a little discipline into my hobby, I've made a list of backlogged games that I want to play/finish this year. Hopefully, I can carve out the time.

@fisk0: Not sure about the others you mentioned, but I was able to play Far Cry 3 on 360 even when uPlay was down for a weekend. Regardless, DRM is real annoying. Nintendo is horrible at letting you keep the things you buy. Even license transfers between purchased hardware is limited. As weird as it is to say, I think MicroSoft has handled the licensing issues for consoles really well. hope Sony learned a lot this get, for PS4's sake.

This seems like more Internet Freakout to me. I downloaded the game 30 minutes after midnight last night and played for 3 hours with no trouble. Not saying some people aren't having issues, but until the launch day smoke clears I doubt we will know the actual score on what is busted and what works. I'm not a fan of DRM or Origin, but that aside I've had nothing really to complain about. That could change at anytime I guess, but I'm not near my home PC at the moment.

Very good. Gamers tend to be very docile and take any shit given to them. Especially console gamers who can almost wholly be blamed for dlc. This, metacritic bombing and the Playstation hack is very much a triumph of will.

Look out everybody! One of the PC Master Race done come here to lern us sumthin'.

Wait... this is on PC and the result of always on DRM. What does this have to do with consoles or DLC?

@ntm: I don't think it has anything to do with Ryan or Rapture directly. I get the feeling that the rebels are former members of the Founders that grew tired of oppression. The leaders however are probably just fighting over power and using the fears and desires of their people to fuel the war. Same crap that our governments do to us today.

Great write-up, Alex. Always enjoy hearing what Ken Levine has to say about game creation. I'm really looking forward to Infinite. The time period and premise behind the action hits a lot of the right cords with me. If Infinite can be a fun shooter with a completely immersive story, then it will be a success in my book.

Mr. TearGas was really off-putting. At first I thought he was just some bum that wondered in off the street to yell about the government and how the cops WON'T STOP HASSLIN' HIM!

I'll take more Mario & Luigi titles anytime.
