PS4 been a-ok since day one.

ONLY problem I've had was the download speed on the PSN during primetime for a patch. Which could have been from any number of things, including my iffy router.

Its called an inactivity timer. Jeeez, you'd think people would know this by now.
(and you can edit the timer or turn it off in options).

Either way, it seems like the guy didn't even care to try and fix the problem and just gave up.

Daily Tech jumps in with reports of doom, including a comparison of Amazon complaint rates.

http://www.dailytech.com/Deathmatch+PS4s+See+Blue+Light+of+Death+Xbox+Ones+Chew+up+Discs/article33809.htm

And to those not familiar with how contract manufacturing (contracting to China companies) works, yes, EVERY unit made is tested before it is shipped. At least, that's what it says in the contract. Sometimes the manufacturing companies cheat on this. See, the contract manufacturer gets paid for each working unit they produce, so they have an incentive to call every unit they make a winner. So in the contact it says that the customer (the one hiring the contract manufacturer) will supply a set of tests that every unit must pass. Units that pass this test are considered good units and the contract manufacturer is paid for it. Bad units must be fixed before they are paid.

So the contract manufacturer has a reason to try to sneak broken units through the test, because then they get paid for them. So there is come cheating. But every unit is supposed to be tested and pass before it leaves the factory.

Well also you might want to note that its probably basic testing for power and OS turn on.
-The disc tray and such probably doesn't get tested.

It would take simply too much time(and money) to do this for every single console.

@strainedeyes: Hey thats still better than the poor folks that bought PS4's and they didn't even turn on out of the box, at least they can still download the games to play them.

I'm sure some xbox ones had that problem too. All mass shipped electronics do.

I don't know, I haven't read a ton of threads about broken XBO's yet. The day is young though - on the PS4 launch day I saw a lot of threads here talking about issues from faulty HDMI jacks to not not even turning on. By Monday we will see if Microsoft built a sturdier product, it's certainly bigger.

I just read this on Reddit. So MS tests every box before it ships it? If that's the case it would prevent a lot of bricked consoles coming to consumers. Which rises the question why Sony doesn't do something similar.

I have no idea what MS' policy is on this, but they might be just testing out a random sample, and not every Xbone shipped.

wouldnt surprise me if they made an exception for this time around, if the failure rate of xbones is even half of what the 360's was thats a huge problem

I don't think thats practical.

If you are testing EVERY xbox before it launches then you simply aren't making it right.

Microsoft bought their Blu-Ray drives from Lite-On: GG, generation over.

/ In all seriousness I hope this is also a <0,4% problem but I have had bad experiences with Lite-On CD/DVD drives in the past so I don't get why they didn't go with a more reliable brand.

That isn't really an issue. Brands in the electronics world(for parts like this) aren't different enough. Lite-On probably gave them the best deal per quality, most of the tech companies simply buy the parts and sell them at different prices depending upon manufacturing cost. Reason why there is a lot of TV brands but they all provide the exact same picture.

(in other words Lite-On is just another parts dealer, xbox-one manufacturing could be entirely different in this scenario, or could not. Outside of some really cheap companies, most of them are mid-range so it shouldn't be the problem.).

Umm, what now? That explains why TV reviews never mention picture quality since they are all the same. Oh wait, they don't cause it isn't true.

It sounds to me you read some article somewhere and only remembered half of it. Yes there are big part manufactures, so the laser in both Sony and Samsung products may be the same. However the chips may be from different companies entirely. It's the parts together that make the difference.

Well the point was that you can buy the same exact electronic piece from another place and it would be a lower or higher price regardless of actual quality.

Its really just about the parts tbh, doubt it will make ALL that much of a difference.

Not that you couldn't find a dozen different ways to get around that though.

As a Devil May Cry fan, I can never quite tell if people who mention DmC are trolling or not...

As a person who never played a DMC game before DmC, I can tell you that I absolutely loved it. Are the things you dislike about DmC related to your expectations of what a DMC game should be like?

Also, how is your avatar so tall? o_o

Well yes and no.

-Yes

The original Devil May Cry set the bar for a lot of things in the hack-n-slash genre. DmC however represents a few steps in the wrong direction, especially from a

gameplay

perspective.

The original Devil May Cry had some rather light-hearted and "fun" characters/settings. I mean the main character, Dante, ate pizza while surfing on enemies. Don't be mistaken, the original DMC was poorly written, but it was always kind "meant for entertainment" stuff. The new DmC was rather...pathetic(?) on its characters/settings. Take a look at this scene from DMC4 then look at the DmC.

Incredibly different standards right?

---------------------------------

And no.

DmC as a game, not related to the original Devil May Cry series, was a bad game by hack-n-slash standards.

It had pretty awful controls, bad combo's, a bad upgrade system, bad dialogue, and a rather uninteresting story/characters.

Its an average hack-n-slash with no real depth.

Here's probably the best analysis I can find on DmC: Very fair analysis, no DMC-fan bias.

It was my understanding that killer instinct was free for XB1 users, but required money for either cosmetics or extra characters.(can't remember which atm).

No Caption Provided

Oh boy, it looks like the free to play model from league lol.

Personally, as a fighting game fan I would probably skip this for the system provided until it built up its seasons. Not that many characters with the kind of "season" system makes the start rather....boring. 6 characters and kind of repetitve motions make this a rather boring entry for me.

Hopefully later when the roster is around 10-15+, it will be a more refined experience.

Seems like a good idea......until you get to a game late.

Then you just feel cheated. I can see gamerscore people(do they still exist) having a fit with this new system.
