They do this because of currency exchange rate fluctuations (the excuse Nintendo gave for their half-year net loss). Microsoft is an American company that reports its earnings in USD, 1 USD will always be 1 USD. 1 CAD does not always equal 1 USD. This is also why XBLM, PSN Store, Steam all have region specific stores, releases, and pricing. Also, I believe Canada and the EU include a tax in their MS Points prices.

One last interesting note, big retailers can sell you anything in their inventory below actual cost and still be able to post profits. So... it's actually more likely that you'll be able to find better deals in stores than in virtual stores.

But why not just hope that Kinect does well, and is fun? Hoping for it to be bad seems like insanity. "

Hey you, don't butt into our pyramid!  But really, if you do not understand why some people think this is a bad thing, think of the Twilight series. Or Highlander 2. Or Terminator 3. Or the Snuggie. Or the cigarette. Or the USSR (Thought I'd go there ehh, well not today hehe) "
This sounds GREAT! But I've got some more questions. How much does Kinect cost? And is it personalized for ME? Kinect sounds great; I like the part where it is personalized, but am I going to have to spend a lot of moneys to get it?

Hm... just read the short article and it specifically says "all swastikas in zombie mode will be replaced with the Iron Cross in the Windows and dubbed home console versions of the game. Only in the subtitled console editions will the Nazi symbol remain intact." It seems like Amazon.co.jp is also specifically listing subtitled and dubbed versions of the game separately. Also worth noting is that the MSRP for the subtitled version is slightly lower than that of the dubbed. So, the version with Swastikas are still going to be abundantly available... at least on consoles.

To me it sounds like the censoring of the swastikas wasn't politically motivated on Square Enix or Activision's part at all. Activision doesn't have a very impressive history with localization in the Asian territory, and this just sounds like a stupid localization problem.

@apeman: The point was simply that even normal, non-gamers with common sense think that California's case is ridiculous.

" I cannot believe that the Supreme Court is going to bat for us like this! I'm honestly shocked! I'm also SHOCKED that I'm continuing to agree with Justice Scalia! "

All of my non-gamer, non-lawyer friends whom I've talked to about this are a little surprised that the Supreme Court decided to hear this case at all.

It's as if some big-shot executive in the government went to the Supreme Court and said to the Justices, "Guys, great job last season! And Kagan, people love you; speculations about your sexual orientation has made this court more 'hip' and 'with it'. But we still need to skew younger!"

@oysteinBrenne: @Ne0teric: Ah sorry! Games aren't really rated here, and for some reason I just assumed Alan Wake would be an M-rated game. My bad.
