Man don't get my hopes up

FFVii REmake is so awesome, I'd love for any FF game to get that treatment

I fear it's got to be door number 1 tho right? What internal capacity does Square even have to do anything other than 1 or 2 right now right?

Jeff, never gonna forget the few interactions we had on the site. You understandably probably did, but I won't. Thanks for all you did for us and for games

All the best man, hope you get to do what you want to do and how you want to do it

haha that's great man and another great list

I would totally watch a show based on your picks, I'm honestly amazed I've never heard of any them (other than Mario Hoops)

This super neat @marino!

I do the same sort of stuff with my own spreadsheets, but mine are a lot less pretty.

Your list has more interesting stuff in it than mine. I've got my favorite franchises and they dominate my top 100.

While most people focus on the top 20 in lists like these when discussing them, I feel like you really see the interesting in back 20. That's definitely true here, with your last 2 in particular!

Tsumu and Car Wars are some super deep cuts! And man Jumping Flash, I've never even heard of

If Danny ever brings back Guilty Treasures, that seems like it might be yours haha

As usual, great list @majormitch!

I haven't played a lot of these yet, but I have a feeling whenever I do that your list and mine will be the most similar, they've ever been for a given year. 100% of these look like "me" games haha

Tho my current number 1 (Deathloop) is likely not going be supplanted I think

@bobafettjm:

and hey if you develop any tricks of your own, let me know!

Always looking to do better, I struggle with this myself haha

Deathloop is a good time. Perhaps best thing about it in this context is that it's a game that eliminates the need for save scumming, so eventhough you fail a lot it doesn't feel bad and you always feel like you are gaining something.

Trials is an interesting game. if you really liked Secret, not sure if you are better off playing the remake or the rerelease. It's a bit jarring to hear SNES era dialogue spoken aloud, there's times where you can tell how abrupt writing was back then

but it's neat! Definitely a cool thing, I'm just glad we finally can get to play after decades.

hope you have fun with them if you play them!

I am not sure what went wrong, but honestly I think it is just because of too much choice. Back in the day it was so much easier to finish games because I would maybe have a handful to choose from, but now between Game Pass and games going on sale for so cheap, I have literally multiple thousands of games to choose from

This is definitely a very real thing, I get it bad too.

here's a couple mental tricks I try to do that seems to help me fwiw

  • Hide anything I'm not currently playing visually
    • Some ways to do that
      • Only games I'm actively playing or are evergreen installed
      • Keep all games not currently being played in their bookcase
      • on PC Launch games from the start menu or desktop icon so I don't have to see the library
  • Limit my purchasing of long games
    • I do pretty well keeping gaming expenses in line, but what I do tend to do is acquire too many hours of gameplay. So when I spend $60 or whatever, I try to make sure I don't acquire more long games than I actually can handle in a few months.
    • Also related to that, I know if I'm only clearing x games per year if I buy more than X, it's just going to increase my backlog
  • Analyze my play patterns
    • related to the previous point, now that I've tracked what games I play and finish etc over a number of years I'm able to isolate patterns and habits of mine. This allows me to have realistic expectations of what I can handle. You've got tons of your own data now, so I bet you could do the same. Like I've picked on interesting quirks of mine, like I rarely play much in May or November.
    • For me 35-50 games per year is what I can clear and of those maybe only 6-8 can be games longer than 30 hours. Last year I cleared 38, played a total of maybe 52-3 things
  • Abandon stuff I'm not enjoying or not in the mood for
    • Weird as it may sound with this particular problem, cutting bait with some games quicker actually helps me finish more.
    • If a game isn't clicking with me, I just move onto something else. e.g. I wanted to play Mass Effect this year, but I just wasn't in the right frame of mind to do it. I realized I was forcing myself and just let myself shift into something more actiony. Ended up finishing 5 games that month.
    • I think this works, because when I'm locked in I plow through a game quickly, but if I'm not in the right mood for a style of game I play inattentively or often have nights where I don't play. e.g. Mass Effect is a game I like and will play at some point, but I got to be in a RPG mood to do that.

Good luck duder, Hope that helps!

Not sure I'm going to have my own list up on GB this year, been messing around with backloggd. It has its issues, but I think I like the functionality/interface a bit more. And the fact it's being more actively updated/maintained is nice.

Fuck man, I need to finish SH Covenant

3. Xenosaga: Episode I - Der Wille zur Macht

Raw JRPG excess and audacity. Also putting this as high as it is will make ZombiePie mad, so extra points.

I'm team ZP on this one. haha man I hope you like some game with anime exposition dump cutscenes

@sparky_buzzsaw:

Haha no stress dude, Nobody can remember every name when doing something like this.

yeah tbh, I started falling off the content when the east/west split happened. I was able to do 2 podcasts for like a 1.5 years but it just too much to keep up with at the time and if I didn't do both I felt out of the loop. I was and am too busy to listen to 6-8 hours of podcasts. So weirdly going to listening to zero made more sense for me than just picking one. I always liked the free GB stuff a lot more than the premium stuff, so I've been free only for eons.

Eventually I was off the podcasts altogether, but I kept up with the Quick Looks until the exodus. But now I'm basically down to nothing. But that isn't what did it for me, I have confidence content will recover and some of the new batch of personalities strike me as having a ton of potential (#teamVoidburger) It's just the knowledge that site is finally undergoing the well overdue needed massive transformation and the community stuff I care about has about 0% chance of ever being a focus again.

y'know my mentality/goals for lists is probably different than yours. I mainly made/make mine for myself cuz I like doing it. You should see my spreadsheet I keep locally, it's effing massive haha

Helps me sort my thoughts y'know? Any discussion they generate is a super enjoyable bonus that I'm always grateful for, but I don't go in expecting any. I always made/make a point of commenting on others because I know how much work it is to make a good one (and I enjoy hearing different opinions).

So to me, my lists have a point well beyond Giant Bomb and I think yours do too. You've made some good ones dude, definitely some of the best I've seen in my time here and it's why I started following you years ago, don't knock yourself.

But yeah man, It's not goodbye, you know where to find me :)
