@BeachThunder: Botanically grapes are berries. They form from a single flower. They are fruit that do not open to spill seeds once mature. They have a thin skin (exocarp) over a fleshy mesocarp and endocarp that surrounds the multiple seeds.
Berries in this sense include tomatoes, eggplant, avocado, persimmon, kiwi and guava as well as grapes. They all form from a superior ovary in relation to the petals. http://www.northernontarioflora.ca/fruits_term_types.cfm
