Top Ten RPG's that influenced my life.

Okay so to anyone that knows me, my gaming life and collection is mostly dominated by Role Playing Games.  So this is the list of Role Playing Games that most effected me and my life.  Or ones that just flat out too the most of my time.

List items

  • This is on my list for a very simple reason. This was my gateway into RPG's. And really into gaming. Before this I did little more than enjoy playing a couple games at the local arcade. I never really felt like I needed to own a home console until I went to a friends house and got told to check out this game. He sat me down and my life was changed ever since.

  • The first RPG I played on the Playstation that would lead to many many more on the system. Memorable characters and ground breaking battle system for the time.

  • One of the most addictive RPG's I ever played, and even more so one of the best stories told on the Playstation. Some of my favorite characters still comes from this game.

  • I easily spent half a life time on this game. Also the first RPG I played where you could pick the main character. I enjoy the story of these characters so much I played through both sides just to see all the subtle changes in the storyline. Loved the battle system.

  • This was a surprise to me. I saw it at a local Hollywood Video and decided to rent it, and glad I did. Instantly I was addicted to the battle system, not to mention being one of the only games to have a long span of time pass in the storyline. Plus a couple twist that really made it memorable for me.

  • When it comes to in the Final Fantasy Series to me is how I can relate to the story that is being told. And VIII holds a very special place to me because of the things that were happening to me at that time in my life. While the draw system might have been tedious and easily exploited it was a fun battle system and more so the story my second favorite in the whole series.

  • This was really what made me fan of the Tales of games. I wouldn't learn till much later that the name was actually known as Tales of Eternia. My buddy would come over and we would play this game for hours on end. Being the first one in the series to be two player from the start. (Tales of Destiny required an accessory called the Channeling Ring for 2 player.) Many, many hours went into this. Still to this day the main characters from this game are among my favorite game characters of all time.

  • This game saved my life. I really mean it. I was depressed and had gone through some really horrible times when this game came out. I completely lost myself in its world and characters. It gave me a chance to turn around in my own life as I took in a great game with wonderful characters. My own life aside, the battle system was quick, addictive and rewarding. Not to mention social linking was a wonderful system, and living the every day life of a High School kid certainly added to the overall experience that is still unique to the Persona series. They would go on to upgrade it in P3: FES and then improve the whole system with a new ensemble of characters in Persona 4. But this version was where it started for me. (Also what drew me to the Shin Megami Tensei series as a whole.)

  • My favorite of all the Final Fantasy games. Locke, Celes and Terra are my all time favorite characters, so it stands to reason that I can't have enough of this game. The story is grand, and the villain perfectly detestable. Everything that I love about RPG's is in this game.

  • Out of all games on this list, not one of them has been played more than this one. I've beaten the game so many times I don't know the count. I can quote the majority of the game off hand. I can tell you all skills double techs and triple techs. I can complete the whole game on new game plus through the whole story line, side quest and get all items. I love every aspect of this game, and probably the most important in my life. I made a few friends with this game, and got plenty of inspiration. Honestly I couldn't place this game any higher. Heck this is the only game on the list that I have bought multiple times. The SNES, the Playstation and lastly on the DS. Sure I enjoy the sequel, but there isn't much that can pass the memories I have of Chrono Trigger.
